Dylan Clawson, better known online as ConflictNerd (formerly known as CONFLICTNERD Dylan), is a Northern Irish gaming YouTuber and Twitch streamer. His YouTube channel content is mostly commentary on building and management games such as Cities Skylines, Banished and Software Inc. He also hosts a Twitch streaming channel, ConflictNerd, where he varies the content of the stream from things like GTA Roleplay, to Forza Horizon, to music streams where he plays guitar and sings.

The ConflictNerd YouTube channel found it's first major success in 2016 through the creation of Let's Build videos on the video game Cities: Skylines - where Dylan created a "Tiered City." At the time, this kind of video was very rare among the wider Cities: Skylines community, and for a time was the most viewed video of the game that could be found on YouTube. It was followed by "Let's Build an Inverted Tiered City," later that year, and by a 2019 Revisit to the idea, three years later.

Dylan's top ten, most viewed videos as of December 2021 are;

  1. Cities: Skylines | Let's Build a Tiered City — 4.3 Million
  2. Cities: Skylines | Let's Build an Inverted Tiered City — 4.1 Million
  3. Cities: Skylines Natural Disasters | EVERY DISASTER! — 2.9 Million
  4. Cities: Skylines | Let's Build a Canals Town — 2.2 Million
  5. Cities: Skylines | Let's Build The City of Sixes — 2.1 Million
  6. THE BATTERY | A Super-Easy Start in Cities: Skylines — 1.6 Million
  7. Castle Story | PART 1 | MY ADORABLE ARMY — 1.1 Million
  8. Cities: Skylines | Vanilla Let's Play | Part 1 — 1 Million
  9. Cities: Skylines | Let's Build a City of Tomorrow — 846,000
  10. Banished | Part 1 — 794,000

In May 2021, Dylan released a post on Twitter and via the YouTube Community Tab, which stated that he would be stepping away from content creation, and was effectively retiring, due to his failing mental and physical health. The specifics of what led to this are unknown, however after some months Dylan returned to content creation - although with fewer videos being released and streams hosted, which has been stated to be due to his focus on ensuring that his own health comes before his work.

In the autumn of 2021, it was revealed through Twitter that Dylan and his family had contracted COVID-19, and as a result his output of videos would slow down further.

In November 2021, it was announced that Dylan's grandfather, who Dylan considered to be his father, had fallen critically ill and was in hospital. A week later on November 26th, his grandfather, William H. Clawson, died - aged 77.

History[]

Even at a young age Dylan wanted to be an entertainer. He describes his primary school life as being the "nerd in the class, who was frequently poked fun off". At 7 years old he made his own Star Wars film starring himself and filmed by his grandma. In High School Dylan's interests changed to being a musician, forming his own band with only two members including himself, and attempting to make a music video of a cover of Bullet for My Valentine's Tears Don't Fall, which ended up being a failure with the other member selling the cover before it was recorded. To this day Dylan admits they "never got their money back".

Throughout his life he retained his interest in video games. He fulfilled his dream of being both a gamer and an entertainer by doing Let's Play videos in YouTube.
