Ayo, good morning Logang! What's popping?

―Logan Paul's old intro

I've made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don't expect to be forgiven, I'm simply here to apologize.

―Logan Paul's apology

Logan Alexander Paul (born: April 1, 1995 (1995-04-01) [age 29]) is an American YouTuber, musician, actor, director, professional boxer, and wrestler currently signed to WWE. Logan started his career as a Vine creator and began creating YouTube videos following Vine’s closing. His channel was the fifth fastest-growing channel on YouTube in 2017 and due to this, entered the top 50 most subscribed late that year, making him the youngest person on that list. As of February 2020, his channel is the 130th most subscribed channel in the world,[1] and he is one of the most successful YouTubers of all time.

Logan is also a WWE wrestler; he was initially mocked in his first WrestleMania appearance but gained praise the following year in his debut match against Rey Mysterio, and at Crown Jewel 2022, where he headlined the event with Roman Reigns.

Early life

Logan Paul was born on April 1st, 1995 in Westlake, Ohio. He was the first son of realtor Greg Paul and Pamela Paul (now Stepnick due to remarriage). He is of English, German, Irish, Scottish and Welsh descent. He is also of 1/16 Ashkenazi Jewish descent, as he descends from Isidore Buxbaum, the son of a Jewish couple from Germany and Hungary.

On January 1997, his younger brother Jake was born in Cleveland, Ohio. When he was 10 years old, Logan started to create his own content for a YouTube channel called Zoosh. And later on named Ldogandjslice.

About

Before starting his primary vlogging channel, Logan had previously created a channel in 2013 known as The Official Logan Paul but stopped uploading on the channel in 2017. Currently Logan’s most popular video is FULL SONG: The Fall Of Jake Paul (Official Video) FEAT. Why Don’t We. Logan Paul first hit fame on the platform Vine starting from 2013, where he would upload random skits whilst attending high school and later college (in which he dropped out of). However, he was only reasonable well known popular and was known very little outside of Vine.

Once Vine shut down, in 2016 Logan started pursuing an acting career and was in the film Baywatch, in which he was only included in a deleted scene. He also has done a collaboration with The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) the same year in a video, however, besides the acting industry, he still wasn't well known at the time. Logan finally hit YouTube main stream fame when he uploaded the song titled Help Me Help You on May 18th, 2017 on The Official Logan Paul channel which is currently his last upload on that channel, in which the music video hit #1 on trending (before Jake hit YouTube main stream fame two weeks later). Weeks later Logan uploaded the song mentioned below which caused him more mainstream fame on YouTube, and later with the January 2018 controversy, he has gained almost all mainstream attention.

Pets

Paul has had several pets. He adopted a Pomeranian named Kong in 2017. Tragically, Kong was killed by a coyote in 2019. He then adopted a husky named Broley, and a Tibetan Mastiff named Ginger.

His most famous pet, however, was his sun conure named Maverick. He would also be accidentally killed in 2019 by Ginger, who mistook Maverick for a squeaky toy.

Ancestry and Family

Logan's maternal grandfather was Willbur R. "Spike" Meredith III (1936-2010), who was the son of Professor Willbur R. "Rob" Meredith II (1908-1984) and Lilian Buxbaum (1909-1984). Rob, Logan's maternal great-grandfather, was the son of Wilbur Robert Meredith (1871-1929) and Mary Davies.

Lillian, Logan's great-grandmother was the daughter of Isidore Harry Buxbaum. Harry's parents were both Jewish; his father was from Germany and his mother was Hungarian. Harry was also the husband of Lillian McLean, who was of German descent on her mother's side and English descent on her father's side.

Jake Paul Drama

On May 30 2017, Logan's younger brother Jake Paul uploaded his own song named It's Everyday Bro.[2] In the song, Jake roasted his ex-girlfriend Alissa Violet, as well as calling out a lot of different YouTubers (like PewDiePie).[3] As a result, many YouTubers responded to Jake's song with criticism, Logan responded and dissed the song.

Jake Responds

On June 1 2017, Jake Paul released his song titled Logang Sucks (DISS TRACK) Official Music Video. In the video Jake basically roasted Logan & his fan base.[4]

Logan's Song

After a while, Logan uploaded the half version of his song against his own brother named The Fall Of Jake Paul Feat. Why Don’t We.[5] As expected, Logan roasted his brother on multiple things in the video.

Logan actually decided first not to upload the full version until Jake Paul went too far, making Logan eventually release the full song. In the full clip Jake's ex-girlfriend Alissa is seen with Logan in the background. At the end of the video, Logan and Alissa actually kissed or it appeared they were going to. Eventually, Alissa Violet got into a relationship with another American YouTuber known today as FaZe Banks. Unfortunately, Banks and Alissa broke up in the summer of 2019 after alleged cheating scandals. They ended up getting back together a few months later.

End Of The Drama

At the end of the whole drama, Jake Paul and Logan actually made up, with the song that got posted on Jake's YouTube channel: I Love You Bro.[6] Many think the brothers did it all as a publicity stunt, and there was never in fact any "beef" to begin with.

Racist Tweets

In September 2017, some of Logan Paul’s old tweets resurfaced, in which the star made jokes based on racist stereotypes of Black and Asian people. Paul's response of this backlash is yet to be said, and the drama died down.

No Handlebars Music Video/Sued by Flobots

On November 23, 2017, Paul released his new single, "No Handlebars", a track that draws heavily on an interpolated sample of the song "Handlebars" by the American alternative hip hop group Flobots. The song was heavily criticized for its perceived sexual objectification of women, including a scene in its music video where Paul rides several women like a bicycle. Flobots frontman Jamie Laurie lambasted Paul for both the "sexist" lyrical content of the song and for unauthorized use of the sample, calling him the face of "douchebag entitlement". Laurie would later go on to release a track with lyrics deriding Paul, titled "Handle Your Bars". Paul did not respond to Laurie's comments nor the backlash towards "No Handlebars".[7] After Flobots sued Paul for copyright infringement in 2019, he deleted the song from YouTube.[8]

Suicide Forest

Although Logan was subjected to many cases of unpleasant controversy, the most infamous one was when Logan went to the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, also known as the Suicide Forest, with his friends. This incident profoundly tarnished his reputation for most of 2018.

LoganPaulSuicideForest

Screenshot of Logan's video from various media outlets

On December 31, 2017, Logan Paul uploaded a video to his channel that shows him going into the 'Suicide Forest'. Throughout his vlog and even in his thumbnail, the suicide victim hanging on a tree is visible (the dead person's face was blurred). In the beginning of the video, there were an advice for suicidal victims as well as suicide hotline number. However, as they explored the forest, they discover a man hanging on a tree. Once he saw the corpse, he repeatedly zoomed in on it and made remarks, jokes and body language. Whether if Logan deliberately made jokes or did it as a coping mechanism still remains debated. Although most of his fans didn't care much about his video at all, a swarm of renowned YouTubers and celebrities, multiple online articles, television, radio news, talk show sources, and even his personal friends reprimanded or mocked him for showing the graphic material to his young audiences. The most subscribed YouTuber at the time, PewDiePie, even went as far as to say that Logan is a "sociopath", a term that will later become a meme due to Shane's documentary about Logan's brother, Jake. Before Logan deleted the video, it had accumulated over 6.5 million views, over 600,000 likes and was #6 on trending, all in the span of one day. Logan indeed apologized twice on Twitter and YouTube, but that only fueled the backlash more, with his apology video on YouTube becoming a copypasta and a meme. After, the video was archived and reuploaded, thousands of times throughout the internet. This controversy is being said to be "the end of Logan's career" by many in and out of the YouTube community due to the backlash.

Consequently, Logan was pulled from nearly all his sponsors such as Pepsi, seen a dramatic decline in his merch sales, pulled from Google Preferred, and banned from Vine 2 (sequel Vine app). On January 24, 2018, Logan Paul returned to YouTube after many reports saying he would return on that day, presenting documentation of him interviewing suicide victims and activists resulting in him learning more on the subject of suicide as an effort to show the mainstream media and public that he is "learning and growing as a human being". In the video, he mentioned he was donating $1,000,000 to suicide prevention organizations, will educate others on the topic of suicide and be an advocate for suicide prevention. The video received mixed reception with some people debating that he only did it to gain back the respect of his followers.

In 2021, a YouTuber known as Pieman made a video alleging that Logan faked the suicide forest incident. The video managed to convince many people that it was indeed faked, though some people such as MangaKamen noted inconsistencies, like him saying that Logan was in the ice caves and not the forest (they are in the same vicinity). Logan responded by copyright striking the video.[9]

Suspended from Monetization

The situation went worse for Logan as he posted a video on February 5, tasering two dead rats and removing a live fish from water and “performing CPR” on it. YouTube then finally took action on February 8 after pressure from PETA, and decided to suspend Logan from monetizing his videos over what Google described as a “pattern of behaviour”, repeatedly posting content which pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable on the site.

Although 20 days later, YouTube re-enabled monetisation on Logan's channel on February 27.

Logan's YouTube Red movie "The Thinning: New World Order" which was put on hold was also later approved by YouTube to be released in October 2018. It was later released on October 17th 2018.

Redemption

As times passed, although he was forgiven and accepted by his personal friends and other famous celebrities, he is still being subjected to derisive memes and parodies, especially KSI vs. Logan Paul boxing match.

Logan has been re-creating vlogs on YouTube daily again since February 4, 2018, with the reception being mixed. In 2020, however, his reputation has somewhat returned to where it was before, despite all the hate still surrounding him.

Interview with Casey Neistat

On July 27, 2018, YouTube filmmaker and personality Casey Neistat uploaded an interview with Logan Paul about the latter's controversial actions. Neistat stated in the description that: "Logan's impact on YouTube has been far and wide. The controversies around the suicide forest video and other negative things he's done has had an impact on YouTube that was felt by a lot of the creator community. I wanted to understand why he did what he did and what his true intentions were moving forward." Despite the interview being published on the website on July 20, 2018, the video was not uploaded until July 27 due to Neistat's current progress in the new 368 part of his channel.[10]

Many fans and critics were skeptical of Paul's part of the interview and gave mostly negative reviews. Raya Maurelle, a YouTube user, stated that "the truth: Casey is wearing shades so that we don't see the thousands of eye rolls he makes," assuming that Casey did not believe any word Paul said.

Nicole Gallucci of Mashable wrote an article about Neistat's interview with Paul; the title stating that "Casey Neistat asked Logan Paul tough questions. His answers prove he still doesn't get it." Gallucci stated her own response, stating that she didn't believe Paul's answer about the suicide video being plain insensitive and using laughter as a defense mechanism, putting the phrase "MMMMMMmmkay, dude." There are also tweets from various Twitter users on the article, stating their disgust at Paul for not changing as a person.[11]

"Going Gay" Controversy

On Logans Podcast, "Impaulsive", Logan and co-host Mike Majlak, made a statement saying they were going to go gay for the whole month on March, calling it "Male Only March". This caused controversy within the LGBT community and the YouTube community, with criticizing Paul for implying that being gay is a choice. Paul apologized for the comment on his twitter and on his Impaulsive Podcast for the comment.

Shark Puppet's "Face Reveal"

On September 9, 2019, Shark Puppet made a face reveal,[12] which featured Logan Paul. Even though it was a joke, Shark Puppet's fans weren't fooled, expressing doubt, upset that Logan may be the perpetrator behind the puppet, with many taking to Twitter to express their concerns about their favorite meme.

While Logan has yet to speak out about the possible troll via social media, Shark Puppet and Logan Paul are in good terms, as Shark Puppet is showed cheering (and "training") Logan Paul while Logan is exercising in a video.[13]

Anti-Christian Sentiment Comments

On an episode of IMPAULSIVE, George Janko became entangled in a heated debate centred around religion and Christianity. Janko is a devout Christian and has made his stance on religion public many times in the past. During the debate, George makes note that when it comes to talking about someone's beliefs it’s important to ‘tip-toe’ and be respectful.

To which Logan disagreed. George said: “I sit at synagogues and talk to rabbis all the time, pick their brains. I sit with Muslim people, they’re some of the most peaceful people.” Paul then turned the conversation into a competition of ‘whose god is real’. George responded: “My god is real in my eyes. I don’t believe that Allah is real in my eyes.” Adding: “But does that mean I have to disrespect their beliefs? No.” The debate then turned ugly when George recounted a time that Logan told him that he needed a therapist because he believed in Jesus. He later adds: “I know people that hate me that treat me better about my faith than you, and you’re my best friend.” Within the debate, Paul states: “I don’t understand why we have to perpetuate a belief which is fucking silly.” Later added: “I think it’s a silly practice to engage in and I think it deserves satire.” George makes note that at times Logan has ‘mocked’ him for his beliefs in front of a group of people.

Many people weren’t pleased with his actions. One wrote: “Logan Paul showed his true colours. Absolutely disgusting way to talk about someone's religion, especially a friend who you ‘love’. Shameful. Another tweeted: “I am not even Christian but the way Logan Paul talks about Jesus and the Christian faith here is ridiculous and totally disrespectful. How can anyone still watch this guy.” A fourth said: “I am not religious but I don’t disrespect people who believe in something different. We live in a society that we can believe in what we want but we should all be accepting of our fellow people.”

Almost a month later, the IMPAULSIVE cast has addressed the moment and the consequences of Paul’s comments on episode 359 of the show. Paul began the conversation by acknowledging that he “made some pretty out-of-line comments to George about George’s beliefs.” Going on to add that, “I’m not going to even say what I said and I’ll tell you why. The following three weeks have been the hardest period of my fucking life. Buddy god kicked me in the dick as hard as he fucking could. As soon as it started happening I went there’s no way.”

Cryptozoo Scam

In September 2021, Paul released a NFT-based game called Cryptozoo, which he claimed that he had been working on for six months.[14] The game was mocked for featuring stock images,[15] and it was not well-received.[16] In December 2022, Coffeezilla, a YouTuber who exposes cryptocurrency scams,[17] ran a three-part docuseries on his YouTube channel about how the game was not functional despite the fact that millions of dollars of funding had been raised from investors.[18] Criticism included marketing the game towards children, launching the game several months before the announcement and allowing the team to purchase large amounts of cryptocurrency which inflated its value. Paul later released a video disputing the allegations and threatened legal action against Coffeezilla but refused to elaborate on the legal and development issues of CryptoZoo. The response video was later deleted by Paul.[19][20]

Such a program began a year later in January 2024, with Paul offering to partially refund tokens from fans who agree to not sue him.[21]

The fight ended as a majority draw, with two judges scoring the fight even at 57–57 and a third judge scoring 58–57 in favour of KSI.[23]

The fight sold out the Manchester Arena and did 1.3 million PPV buys and was labeled as "the biggest event in YouTube history" and "the largest ever amateur boxing fight". Taking the sum of all the videos on KSIvsLogan channel, the event so far has got 107M views.

On September 4, 2019, it was announced that Paul would be making his professional boxing debut in a rematch against KSI, which would be broadcast exclusively on DAZN in the United States.[24] The fight was scheduled to take place on November 9 at the Staples Center. At the UK press conference for the rematch, Paul again stirred controversy as he accused KSI of having five abortions, before remarking, "Five babies dead. I might return the favor and kill you." He received criticism from abortion rights activists, who described his comment as "horrific", while anti-abortion activists came to his defense. Paul responded by stating, "I said something distasteful and insensitive."[25]

The rematch, which consisted of six three minute rounds, resulted in a win for KSI via split decision, with two judges scoring the fight 57–54 and 56–55 for KSI, and one judge scoring it 56–55 in favor of Paul.[26]

Logan Paul vs. Dillon Danis

During an interview with True Geordie, Paul was asked about his next desired boxing opponent, and he responded by saying he wanted to fight American mixed martial artist Dillon Danis.[27] Danis responds to threats from Logan on Twitter, saying "See you soon @LoganPaul ps @TrueGeordieTG you’re a bitch."[28] In December 2022, Danis was interviewed by Ariel Helwani for the MMA Hour, where he claimed that Paul signed a contract to fight him in January 2023 but had to drop out indefinitely due to his injury.[29] However, Paul denied the story, hitting back at Danis’ claims over on Instagram, where he denied ever actually signing a contract to seal the deal on their boxing match.[30] On March 14, 2023 episode of Impaulsive, Paul confirms that he will be returning to the boxing ring and has an opponent for his return boxing match.[31]

On 28 July, it was announced that Paul and KSI would both headline MF & DAZN: X Series 10 – The Prime Card on October 14 at the Manchester Arena in the Manchester, England. Their opponents have yet to be announced.[32] On August 8, it was revealed that Paul will be facing Danis.[33] On August 22 at the press conference, Paul brought out a cake for Danis' 30th birthday which depicted him knocked out while Danis made comments to Paul's fiancée Nina Agdal.[34] The final press conference took place on October 12, Paul brought out Chris Hansen and jokingly mocked that he was "going to catch a predator."[35] Paul and Danis then got into a brawl which resulted in Danis throwing a microphone at Paul's face which led him to be escorted out.[36]

Paul vs. Dillon Danis at the Manchester Arena

On the night of the fight, Paul would beat Danis via DQ in the 6th and final round. Danis received hate online afterwards for his style of fighting during the fight which consisted of constant defense and low amounts of offense. Danis connected on just 9 punches the entire fight. In the final round Danis unsuccessfully attempted a Double leg takedown which is illegal in Boxing. At the conclusion of the fight Danis attempted what seemed to be another takedown however Logan stopped in and while Danis was laying on the floor, Paul would throw a Hammer fist punch. This attempted Hammer Fist punch caused a brawl as Danis got up and attempted to swing at Paul after the bell rang. However, security were able to keep everyone in check.[37] Paul then called out Rey Mysterio for the WWE United States Championship, setting up a match at WWE Crown Jewel.[38]

On December 6, 2020, it was announced that Paul would face former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition bout on February 20, 2021.[39] The fight was postponed, and took place on June 6, 2021 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.[40] On May 6, 2021, Mayweather and Paul met for the first time at a press conference at Hard Rock Stadium, where the latter's brother, Jake Paul, became involved in an angry brawl with Mayweather when he removed Mayweather's hat from his head.[41] A visibly irate Mayweather was captured on video saying, "I'll kill you motherfucker! Are you crazy? I'll fuck you up, motherfucker. I don't play motherfucking games. I'll fuck you up."[42]

The bout consisted of constant clinching initiated by Paul and went the full distance to the sound of boos from the crowd, with no winner being announced.[43] Mayweather's superior boxing was reflected by the CompuBox punch stats, with Mayweather having landed 43 punches of 107 thrown (40.2%), compared to Paul's 28 landed of 217 thrown (12.9%).[44] In his post-fight interview, Mayweather praised his opponent, saying: "He's better than I thought he was ... he's a tough, rough competitor." Paul appeared to harbor some doubt about how seriously Mayweather had taken the fight, saying: "I'm going to go home thinking, 'Did Floyd let me survive?'"[45]

Podcast

In late 2018, Logan started his own podcast called Impaulsive with his friends Mike Majlak and George Janko. The podcast is currently at 2.3 million subscribers and has had many famous guests including Its JoJo Siwa, RiceGum, Josh Peck, Alex Jones, Ben Shapiro, Tana Mongeau, Jordan Belfort, Bella Thorne, TheOdd1sOut, MrBeast, and many others.

Kaitlin Bennett made an appearance on the podcast in January 2019, but her episode was deleted in February 2020 due to a controversy arising from an argument with a gay cop at a pride parade. Kaitlin then called Logan weak for deleting the episode.

The podcast has been praised by critics and fans for showing a more mature and older side of Logan and also catering to a much older audience, rather than a younger audience of people. In addition, Logan was praised for not being afraid to tackle serious issues while advocating for it in multiple occasions. Mike also became a breakout star and fan favorite on the podcast, which prompted him to start his own YouTube channel with 2 million subscribers.

The podcast also won a 2019 Streamy Award for Best Podcast.
