Pokémon GO is a mobile app for Android and iOS devices.

Development history[]

The game's concept was first conceived in 2014. Niantic drew attention with its most recent app, Ingress, of which Tsunekazu Ishihara of The Pokémon Company seemed to be hugely impressed with.

Ishihara recommended that Niantic should develop a game similar to Ingress using mechanics featuring Pokémon. Tatsuo Nomura, a Chinese-born Japan immigrant, decided to join Niantic to help develop the game. The game's music was composed by Junichi Masuda, who has been most notable for doing the music in the main Pokémon series games by Game Freak.

By March 2016, Japan began doing beta tests of the game. This would eventually refine players to assist in refining the game before its full release. Beta testing later expanded to other countries worldwide. The app was officially released in Australia and North America on June 6, 2016. It later released in Europe on June 13, 2016, in Japan on June 22, 2016, and India on December 14, 2016.

PokéStop nominations[]

Players who are on Level 38 or higher are eligible to submit nominations for a PokéStop. Players can go to settings and select a new nomination for a PokéStop. The player must take a photo of the proceeding place and ensure that it abides the guidelines for nomination. After taking the photo, the player must add the title of the place and the description as well. Once the steps have been followed, the nomination is reviewed by staff of Niantic. Furthermore, users can review the nominations on the Niantic Wayfarer website.
