The Fox News Channel (commonly shortened to Fox News or FNC) is an American multinational conservative YouTube channel and a cable news channel owned by the Fox News Media division of Fox Corporation [1] based in New York City. The news channel started on October 7, 1996 and was led by Rupert Murdoch and former executive of CNBC Roger Ailes. During the September 11 attacks, they were the first news channel to run a news ticker on the bottom.

On April 26, 2021, Fox News Channel removed the ticker from its on-air graphics.

History[]

The channel was created on September 18, 2006, and uploaded their first video on September 22, 2011. The channel stopped uploading until May 8, 2013, and made their first viral video on the same day.

Controversies[]

Fox News has repeatedly engaged in false and biased reporting in favor of the Republican Party, its conservative allies and officials, among others whilst downplaying the Democratic Party in a negative light. As a result, Fox News has been repeatedly criticized for acting on behalf of President Donald Trump and his agenda. [2] [3] In addition, the network has promoted false conspiracy theories to promote Republican and conservative causes. [4]

In May 2023, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced that it would open a public consultation regarding the channel's carriage in Canada, acting upon complaints by the LGBT advocacy group Egale Canada surrounding a March 2023 episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight that contained content described as "malicious misinformation" regarding trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and two-spirit communities, including "the inflammatory and false claim that trans people are 'targeting' Christians." [5]

On August 29, 2017, British satellite television provider Sky (a subsidiary of Comcast) dropped Fox News due to its carriage being not "commercially viable" due to average viewership of fewer than 2,000 viewers per day. [6]

Fox News was removed from Spanish satellite television operator Movistar in March 2023. On July 9, 2024, Movistar removed Fox News from the remaining offers. [7]

Fox News ceased distribution to New Zealand in 2010, reportedly due to an expiring license. [8]
