Orvon Grover "Gene" Autry (also known as The Singing Cowboy) (September 29, 1907 - October 2, 1998 [aged 91])[2] was an American actor, musician, rodeo performer, and baseball team owner.
Personal life[]
Gene was born on September 29, 1907,[2] in Tioga, Texas, United States. He had a grandparent that was a methodist preacher.
In 1932, he married Ina Mae Spivey.
In 1981, after Ina's death, he married Jackie Autry.
On October 2, 1998, he passed away at the age of 91.[2]
History[]
In 1928, he began singing on the KVOO radio station in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States, due to being discovered by Will Rogers, who heard him sing.[3][4]
In 1932, he made his first song, titled That Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine.
In 1934, he starred in his first film, titled In Old Santa Fe.
In 1961, he created the MLB team the Los Angeles Angels.[5][6]
