Genius is an American website that is known for hosting lyrics for a bunch of songs. Their YouTube channel is primarily known for inviting music artists and asking them about the meaning and themes of their songs. Genius was originally called Rap Genius, and they would make videos about vlogs with Red Cafe, Nas and Mac Miller. It was part of a website founded by Tom Lehman, Ilan Zechory, and Mahbod Moghadam in August 2009, which allowed users to add their own interpretations and annotations to songs. They would also interview rappers at their premieres. However, later they decided to expand their coverage from rap to other celebrities like singer Ellie Goulding and stage actor Lin Manuel Miranda.
Their signature piece of content is Behind the Lyrics, and the first video in the series was of Yo Gotti's Down in the DM, released in 2016.[1] They are also known for their live recordings of rappers such as Lil Tecca and The Backpack Kid.
