Don't be evil

―Google's slogan

Google is an American[1] internet company that was founded on September 4, 1998.[2] It is one of the major companies, along with Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Meta.[3]

History[]

Google created the YouTube channel on September 18, 2005.[4] The channel didn't start uploading until February 13, 2007. The channel first uploaded a miniseries called Gmail Theater.[5] After its end, the channel started to upload interviews, tutorials on certain Google products, etc.[6]

Google buying YouTube[]

On October 9, 2006, Google announced that it acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion.[7] Google then bought the site on November 13, 2006.[8]

Channel[]

The channel contains videos on Google content, for example Google I/O livestreams and product launch trailers.[9][10] However, they are well known for their "Year In Search" videos, which is their own version of YouTube Rewind.[11] Like YouTube, they started doing these kinds of videos in 2010.[12] It showcases the most searched keywords on the site.[11]

Year In Search 2018-2019[]

Ever since YouTube Rewind 2018 failed, with YouTubers making custom Rewinds to make up for it, and Google still going on with their Search Rewinds as usual, the 2018 Search Rewind was met with positivity as usual.[13] It ended up being the most viewed video on the channel until the end of 2019,[13] when it was taken over by the 2019 Search Rewind.[14] The 2018 Search Rewind has 258K likes and 26K dislikes,[13] while the 2019 Search Rewind has 463K likes and 26K dislikes as of September 2024.[14]

Year In Search 2020[]

With the company still going on with their Year In Search videos, they finally uploaded their 2020 Rewind on December 9.[15] The video quickly became the most viewed video on the channel with 243 million views as of September 2024.[15] The video also depicts the most searched keyword, 'why'.[15]

Trivia[]

  • Google has more followers on Twitter than subscribers on YouTube.[1]
  • Google has commented once and is the only comment on the 18-19 year ownership of the account.[16]
