Google Maps is a mapping platform from Google that offers many features.
History[]
Google Maps was started as a C++ program. It was then acquired to Google in October 2004.
It was launched in 2005, firstly announced in a blog in February 2005. In 2011, a feature called “Map Maker” was released and added to the American version, allowing users to edit and add to the map.
In 2012, Google was found guilty of abusing dominant position of Google Maps, therefore having to pay a fine to a French mapping company known as “Bottin Cartographer.”

Google Maps has many features. Listed below contain few features of the app.
Street view[]
Although having its own application, Street View is also accessible in Google Maps. Released in May 2007, it provides panoramic street views in many locations. Street View started to expand by mapping many other places. It has been controversial for privacy concerns about the uncensoring of photographs in public streets.
My maps[]
Launched in April 2007, it is enabled so that users can create custom maps for personal use or to share. Users can add many things to the maps, such as notes, lines, shapes, etc.
Google local guides[]
Google local guides is a volunteer program to have users contribute to Google Maps, sometimes rewarding them. It consists of adding photos, reviews, information, correcting information and videos.
Directions and transit[]
Google Maps provides a route planner for users to find available directions through driving, public transportation, walking, etc. It can indicate transit routes as well as releasing incognito mode.
Channel[]
The channel was created on December 29, 2006, and the first video was uploaded on December 14, 2011. The channel uploads videos mainly about their app, along with a few videos related to travel and cities.
