Cooper Smith Goodwin[1] (born: October 11, 1994 (1994-10-11) [age 30])[2], better known as Gooseworx, is an American YouTuber, musician, cartoonist, animator, director, and webcomic writer. She is best known for renditions and covers of popular songs from video games, original compositions, and independent cartoons.

Gooseworx is the creator of the computer-animated web series The Amazing Digital Circus under Glitch Productions, which surpassed Vivziepop's Hazbin Hotel as the most viewed indie animation pilot on YouTube. She also is known for creating the animated short film Little Runmo, and the animated anthology film series The Pink City, consisting of the short films Elain the Bounty Hunter, Elain Gets Adopted, Dento Takes the Stairs, Ghost of the Year, and The Darly Boxman Show.

She also created the now-cancelled webcomic Horde of Heroes.

History and content[]

Career[]

Early art[]

Gooseworx's earliest uploads online originated from the art sharing website DeviantArt, where she joined around 2010 to 2011, the same time as her YouTube channel's creation.[3] She met and collaborated with other artists native to DeviantArt, such as fellow YouTube animator Zeurel, who would go on to create the indie web series Monkey Wrench.

Gooseworx also joined Newgrounds on August 13, 2012.[4]

YouTube[]

Gooseworx later gained acclaim for animated short films on YouTube such as Little Runmo, Elain the Bounty Hunter, Ghost of the Year, and the webcomic Horde of Heroes. In 2021, she created the viral analog horror video BLUE_CHANNEL:THALASIN, a fictional television commercial showcasing Thalasin, a drug with a variety of fake emotions including Degerence and Humber.

She also gained notoriety for orchestral covers of songs from the indie game Undertale by Toby Fox, and music such as Snow Miser's introductory theme from the animated Rankin/Bass Christmas special The Year without a Santa Claus.

Collaborations[]

Gooseworx has composed music for Vivziepop's animated pilot and Amazon Prime Video series Hazbin Hotel and her subsequent web series Helluva Boss alongside The Living Tombstone, although this does not extend beyond the pilot for the latter. In January 2024, she partook in a collab project hosted by Burdrehnar that reanimated the intro of the 2002 comedy anime Azumanga Daioh.[5]

Her style is described as very zany and cartoonish, with a balance of surreal and distorted horror. Gooseworx is also notorious for her geometrical and shape-oriented character designs.

The Amazing Digital Circus[]

The Amazing Digital Circus is an animated pilot and series exclusive to YouTube, created by Gooseworx and produced by Glitch Productions. The show follows a group of humans turned into computer-animated cartoon characters, trapped inside a digital land themed after circus tropes and childhood toys. The world is overseen by an eccentric A.I. named Caine, and his loyal assistant Bubble. An anxious woman named Pomni is the newest human to enter the circus, taking the form of a jester and searching for an exit.

Following worries and doubts managing creative projects with other people on a large scale,[6] Gooseworx was contacted by GLITCH with the offer to develop an animated series under them following the release of Little Runmo. Gooseworx pitched 3 different concepts before settling on Digital Circus, an idea inspired by the post-apocalyptic short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream", PC games of the 1990's, and early CGI character renders.

Several teasers and trailers were released months in advance, generating interest. The pilot for The Amazing Digital Circus was uploaded on October 13, 2023, and was met with immediate acclaim outside of the pre-established Glitch Productions audience, reaching over 100 million views within four weeks. The Amazing Digital Circus garnered an active fanbase, and a merch line was made available for purchase to help fund production of future episodes and endeavors.

The series' pilot episode was nominated for an Annie Award for Best Character Animation in TV/Media. In September 2024, it was announced that further episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus would release simultaneously on both YouTube and Netflix's streaming service starting in October that year.
