Sup bruh - New video dropping every week

―Haley Kalil

Haley Kalil (born: August 6, 1992 (1992-08-06) [age 32][1]) is an American[citation needed] YouTuber, model, and social media personality.[2]

Personal life[]

Kalil was born Haley O'Brien on August 6, 1992, in Excelsior, Minnesota, United States. She is the middle of three childre; she has one older sister and one younger brother. She attended St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Biology and Psychology, and a minor in Chemistry.[3]

Kalil married American football player Matt Kalil at a ceremony in Hawaii on July 8, 2015. She filed for divorce in 2022.[4] That same year, she underwent surgery to remove tissues from endometriosis and urethritis after being diagnosed with such and ovarian cysts.[5]

Career[]

Kalil began her modeling career in pageantry at the age of 16 in 2009, where she was placed as the third runner-up at the Miss Minnesota Teen USA pageant show that year. She returned next year where she was crowned. In 2013, she competed again in pageantry while on her senior year in college where she was crowned again at Miss Minnesota USA 2014. She returned to the pageant show as one of the judges at the 2021 competition.[6][7]

In 2018, Kalil was featured as a contestant in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for its first Swim Search. She appeared in the 2019 edition as one of the two winners and a rookie.[8]

YouTube history[]

Kalil created her YouTube channel on April 19, 2021. Most of her videos consist of YouTube Shorts where she posts short comedic skits with her and her friends of TikTok trends of which her viewers find "relatable".

Kalil has also uploaded long-form content and broadcasted a handful of livestreams on her YouTube channel.[9] Her most popular long-form video is her recreation of Doja Cat's red crystal outfit on Vogue.[10][11] She has also recreated Doja Cat's 2023 Met Gala outfit that resembles a cat.[12]

Controversy[]

Viral "Let them Eat Cake" TikTok Video[]

On May 13, 2024, Kalil uploaded a video of her going to the 2024 Met Gala hosted a week earlier on May 6 while using the viral TikTok sound "Let them eat cake" by Marie Antoinette, who was the Queen of France from 1774 to 1792. The Pharse "let them eat cake" dates back to the French revelations where fancy people would live a luxury and lavish lifestyle while people seen in social classes below them were crying for food, showcasing that these leaders are out of touch with reality.[13]

This caused the video to receive backlash from the Internet[14], mainly due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine which politically goes way back to the occupation in 1946. Kalil eventually apologized for uploading the video, but her apology was poorly received with her claiming that she did not know anything about the ongoing conflict in Gaza claiming that she was not an "elite" and was "a normal person".[15] This sparked the Blockout 2024, an online movement to block social media accounts of celebrities or internet personalities who remain silent to the ongoing Israel-Hamas, oppose the side of Palestine, or take the side of Israel.[16]

Kalil and other celebrities have been considered targets of the Blockout, with many participants of the movement blocking every celebrity to raise awareness for the ongoing conflict. [17]

Despite this controversy, many fans and viewers of Kalil have come to defend her and dismiss the whole backlash as overanalyzed, childish, and performative, even pointing out that the audio and the historical context behind the phrase "Let them eat cake" ultimately had nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza. Some even point out how at worst, all Kalil did was use the audio in the wrong place and at the wrong time and do not think much of it.[18]
