Hololive is a Japanese VTuber company with branches around the world. Its parent company is Cover Corporation. Initially, the name Hololive was used for Cover's 3D stream distribution app, and the company itself merged with Holostars. Combining all VTubers under their name, Hololive has over 50 million subscribers.

Origins[]
hololive was launched by Motoaki "YAGOO" Tanigo on June 13, 2016, originally as a VR software, but as the technology progressed and they realized they were able to produce virtual avatars, they decided to create a VTuber agency, with their first talent, Sora Tokino, debuting later. Tanigo cites Kizuna AI and Miku Hatsune as influences, though the idea for an idol group was inspired by AKB48.
hololive's headquarters are in Chuo, Tokyo, Japan.
Success[]
After the success of their Japanese branches, hololive would open up branches in China and Indonesia. In 2020, being inspired by their bilingual, American talent Coco Kiryu, they would debut an English-speaking branch, later known as HoloMyth, which would put their name in mainstream pop culture. HoloEN inspired many other agencies in the West and is cited as the most popular VTuber group of all time.[citation needed] Shortly after their debuts, one of their talents, Gura Gawr, quickly became the most subscribed VTuber in the world, dethroning Kizuna AI as the most subbed VTuber.
Many hololive talents such as Coco, Rushia, Calliope, Pekora, and Kiara are some of the most superchatted VTubers of all time due to their large audience. Calliope Mori's rap songs would often debut at #1 in Japanese/Western rap and hip-hop charts. In addition, Pekora Usada won the topic award in the Game Streamers Awards 2021[1]. The talents of Hololive also engage in sponsorships and deals with companies such as Bandai Namco.

Friend A (友人A Yūjin A) (born: February 28, 2001), commonly known as A-chan (えーちゃん), is a staff member at the main hololive branch and the "de facto" host of the hololive official channel. She is a personal friend of Tokino Sora who initially appeared as a side character of Sora's channel before officially becoming a staff member. She was originally depicted as a doodle, but later gained a proper virtual avatar by おるだん, who also designed Sora and Sakura Miko's current designs.
In addition to appearing in some videos uploaded on the hololive official channel, since May 2021 she also hosts a monthly program "holo no Koshikake" where she recaps the news and events happened within hololive. In September 2021, during a first collab between Aqua, Marine, Gura and Ina'nis, she assisted translating the conversations between the former two and the latter two. In January 2022, she, along with Towa, hosted a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament. She also made an appearance in Kiara's HOLOTALK show and Inuyama Tamaki's interview stream.
In-joke/memes[]
- Like Shion, Rushia, Kanata, Suisei, Gura and Ina'nis, A-chan's flat chest is occasionally poked fun of by hololive members and fans. Coco coined a group "hololive's 5 precipitous cliffs" consisting of the former three, Matsuri and A-chan. Suisei, Gura, Ina'nis, Ollie and Laplus would later be sometimes involved in the joke.
Daidou Shinove (大道シノヴ) (born: January 13, 1990) is the former manager of the holostars branch. While Shinove has his own channel, he uses it mainly for commenting on holostars-related videos and members' chat; however he occasionally appears in videos uploaded on the holostars official channel and members' streams.

Omegaα (according to lore, birthday: December 32) is a (presumed) staff member at the English branch who was originally assumed to be a surprise sixth member of the second generation.
