The organization responsible for organizing the modern Olympic Games, founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and Demetrios Vikelas, oversees the Summer, Winter, and Youth events.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) governs the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the worldwide Olympic Movement, including all entities and individuals involved in the Olympic Games.
History[]
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, with Demetrios Vikelas as its inaugural president and de Coubertin, the founder, as its president in 1896.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) moved the Winter Olympics to even years between the Summer Games in 1992 to separate the planning of the two events and improve the financial balance of the organization, which receives a higher income in Olympic years.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) hosts the modern Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games (YOG), held every four years. The first Summer Olympics took place in 1896 in Athens, Greece, and the first Winter Olympics in 1924 in Chamonix, France. The first Summer YOG was in Singapore in 2010, and the first Winter YOG was in Innsbruck in 2012.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved a $156m project to build a new headquarters in Vidy, Lausanne in November 2015.[1] The "Olympic House" is set to be inaugurated on June 23, 2019, marking the 125th anniversary of the organization,[2] while the Olympic Museum remains in Ouchy, Lausanne.[3]
Channel[]
On October 4, 2009, IOC Media created their YouTube channel. The first video was uploaded on the same day, titled "Olympic Bid 2016 - Chicago".[4] The channel usually uploads videos about the Olympics.
