IRyS (born: March 7) is a VTuber associated with Hololive.[3] She debuted between generations in her own English branch "Project: HOPE."

Content[]

IRyS joined YouTube on July 10, 2021, introducing herself to her viewers and fellow Hololive members. The reception she received was overwhelmingly positive, having earned fans from both the West and Japan, especially due to her Japanese speaking skills. Ollie Kureiji was one of her most vocal supporters, saying that she simped for IRyS. Her singing was praised by several fellow YouTube musicians and many people adored her sense of humour and style. The debut stream lasted for an hour but earned over 300,000 subscribers.

When she made her Twitter account she was banned from tweeting due to the sudden increase of followers (which Twitter flags as suspicous activity), so she used her Twitter description as a way to tweet and express her thoughts.

On July 11, she released Caesura of Despair, her first music video[4]. She has streamed several games such as One Hand Clapping, APEX Legends, DOOM, Mother Simulator, It Takes Two, Ring Fit Adventure, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Subnautica, Garctic Phone, Penguin's Dogma, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, The Henry Stickmin series, Night Delivery, Minecraft, Dead by Daylight, Back 4 Blood, Luigi's Mansion 3, Missing Children, 12 Minutes, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Back 4 Blood, Little Nightmares, Titanfall 2, There is no game, Bus Simulator, Hide & Shriek, Resident Evil Village, Final Fantasy XIV, Terraris, Megaman 2, Another Eden and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

While playing games, she is known to adopt a lewd demeanor, for example her stream of Plug & Play had her make up several NTR storylines. IRyS also took part inthe international Garctic Phone collaboration[5]. However a lot of her streams have remained music based, with her covering her fellow Hololive VTubers' songs and hosting karaoke streams. Her other content involves making ASMR.

Collaborations[]

Being from Hololive's Project: Hope, her first participation in a competition was the HoloENxID Mario Kart tournament, followed by the HoloEN Among Us tournament. In the former, she aced the game, frequently placing in Top 3 (which sparked a rivalry with Ina'nis) despite her lack of experience. She is also good at APEX Legends and was able to lead Ollie and Iofi's team to success. Mumei, Reine, Ollie, Sana, Calliope and IRyS also competed in the EN x ID Pokemon Holo Throw Down; Sana won[6]. IRyS and Reine have also played Operation: Tango together. Her stream of Overwatch featured Kronii, Mumei, Gura, Ina'nis and Amelia[7].

In her first Minecraft stream, she accidentally went into the JP server instead of the EN one and almost immediately got chased around by hostile mobs without a means to defend herself. Polka logged in and ended up saving her, before giving her some food to heal and leading her to a bed to save. Due to her vigilante-like actions, Polka is compared to Batman, and now helps any EN members who require her assistance in the game.

IRyS also features Calliope in a lot of her karaoke streams, and has also featured Nene. She was also the narrator for the English and Japanese episodes of lore-building videos that announced HoloCouncil.

Calliope, IRyS and Baelz host the podcast Chadcast.[8]

Kronii has a small rivarly with IRyS as the two tend to insult each other a lot (with IRyS always having the upper hand in the end).[9][10] This was even present in their A Way Out collab.[11] Her watchalong of The Last Airbender also involved IRyS.[12] Ironically, when she was new, IRyS implied an affection for Kronii, once stating ther rooms should be next to each other in Minecraft. In another incident, IRyS accidentally hit one of her six dogs. Kronii saw this, and mistook IRyS for an animal abuser, and ran away. IRyS later clarified it was an accident.[13]

In one stream, Baelz and IRyS got married and divorced in the span of a day. The reason they divorced was because IRyS beat her in Yahtzee. Baelz and IRyS continue to get married and divorced in streams for similar reasons.[14][15] At times they disagree if they are divorced or not.[16] IRyS has also dubbed one of her streams before.[17] According to Baelz, her and IRyS do a lot of things off-stream.[18]

On January 30, 2022, Calli announced and would stream the first episode of her new podcast, Chadcast, which would also feature IRyS and Baelz[19].

On August 1, 2022, IRyS was interviewed by Crunchyroll[20] where she talked about her solo debut and music career. In a later interview, she would reveal her top 10 anime (in no order) to be the Fafner franchise, Death Note, Bakuman, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Mob Psycho 100, Angel Beats!, Rascal does not dream of Bunny Girl-senpai, Cardcaptor Sakura and Knights of Sidonia[21].

Diva of hololive English Project: HOPE IRyS

IRyS, a half-demon, half-angel also known as a Nephilim, once brought hope to "The Paradise" during the ancient age. Her full name is ███████ Irys. This current era, riddled with despair and desperation, has brought upon her second awakening. She has arrived to deliver hope, with her feelings put into her lyrics and songs, and determination in her voice.

Though she tends to retain her Nephilim form, she is still quite young within her race. With emotion and "other factors," it is possible that her form may lean to either side. When that occurs, she bears a brief change in her appearance.

She does not speak of the events that preceded her second awakening. She faces ever forward, perhaps because she is Hope Incarnate, though no one knows for sure. Or could it be...

Other[]

  • Despite her lore stating that she is a nephilim and half demon and half angel, nephilim in the bible are said to be half human and half angel. Angel/demon hybrids are known as Nephalem.
  • According to lore, due to her being a half demon, she never got any gifts from Santa. This is odd, as Towa Tokoyami, another VTuber associated with Hololive, is a full demon and gets presents every year.

Design[]

Her illustrator is redjuice[29] and her modeler is rariemonn.[30]. She is the fifth Hololive talent to have heterochromia after Marine Houshou, Luna Himemori, Ollie Kureiji and Roberu Yukoku. Her character design is considerably different from the rest of most Hololive characters, culminating on her design being divisive among her community.

She is 166cm tall.[31]

IRyS' capitalized name is possibly a homage to AZKi, and like AZKi, IRyS debuted outside of a specific generation. They are the only two who have done this.

In November 2022, she debuted a new model illustrated by redjuice and rigged by Brian Tsui.[32]

On May 9, 2022, DoKomi announced that Kiara and IRyS would appear, and tickets were available for a meet and greet[34]. On July 14, 2022, Crunchyroll Expo tweeted that IRyS would be a Featured Guest at the convention[35].

On July 23, 2022, OMOCAT scheduled a collaboration with IRyS.[36]

Her fanbase is officially called "IRyStocrats" a Portmantaeu of "Aristrocrats" and her name "IRyS". Her channel members are part of the "Nephamily".

IRyS also hosts special streams reserved for the Nephamily, and some rewards of being part of them include practicing with her as she plays games, watching anime and animated films with her, being a part of exclusive Q&A(SMRs) and being part of her karaoke stream afterparties[38].

In-jokes/memes[]

  • IRyS being the child of Towa and Kanata, since she is half demon and half angel. IRyS herself has discredited this, however, but finds jokes about it to be funny.
    • Some fans have also joked that because of Kanata "cheating" on Coco with Towa, its why Coco left Hololive. However since some fans see Towa as an angel, another joke is that IRyS is the child of Towa and someone else like Choco, Laplus and Ayame.
    • IRyS' lack of grip strength also makes some think that she can't be the child of Kanata.
  • IRyS' age being zero or "younger than Luna's" since she said her age is "since hope has been in your heart".
  • After witnessing IRyS yeeting the baby in Mother Simulator, IRyStocrats began calling her "Mom of the year".
  • Because of her seiso image, fans began saying IRyS is Yagoo's Hope for a proper idol agency.
  • IRyS' name sounds like IRS, (American Internal Revenue Service), so Irystocrats like to call her IRS-chan, and joke that when they send her a superchat, they're paying their taxes to her. When IRyS suggested a name for her fandom, chat began spamming "#TAXPAYERS", but it was rejected.

  • Part of her hatred of cieling fans comes from them looking unstable, and her watching Final Destination. In response to this, some IRyStocrats formed the "Ceiling Fan Appreciation Association (CFAA)".
  • IRyS hates math and is bad at it. Gura was also known for the same thing, and jokes have been made about how she is a "true hololive VTuber" for her hatred of math.
  • Whenever IRyS falls flat on her face in Minecraft, IRyStocrats type "Hope has descended" in the chat. When she began furiously chasing Ollie, IRyStocrats began typing "Hope has descended and is coming for you" in the chat. During a Dead by Daylight stream, IRyS showed that she was very good at sneaking up on people and killing them, and in an Among Us stream, she killed all of HoloCouncil easily, which led to chat spamming this even more.
  • IRyS once went to "an idol meeting" during a The Radio Station stream. At the same time a heart rate monitor was attached to her, and it went up to 116BPM.

She speaks English and Japanese, as she was born and raised in America but currently resides in Japan. IRyS also mentions having a sister, who suggested her catchphrase of "HIRyS, it's IRyS!".[39]

She has mentioned meeting Calli in real life. Given how Calli resides in Tokyo, its likely IRyS resides there as well, or some other nearby city in Japan.

She suffers from a medical condition where she has unstable joints and required surgery for it[40]. Because of this she had to skip the "Overhead Arm" challenge in Ring Fit Adventure.

Trivia[]

  • IRyS likes sudoku, spaghetti with meatballs and tofu, sleeping, singing, and PvP Games.[41] She hates ceiling fans, celery, heights, Santa, math and bugs.[42]
    • Despite her fear of heights her first MV, Caesura of Despair, featured her skydiving off Tokyo Tower. When IRyS was asked why she was scared of height in spite of having wings, she replied that it was because she preferred to walk.
    • IRyS also hates car wash interiors (mentioning that as a child, she would be traumatized whenever her dad left her in the car during car washes), and is scared of floating tube men that are often used as mascots at car wash sites.
  • One week after her debut, IRyS reached 500,000 subscribers on YouTube, making her the fastest VTuber of Hololive to achieve this milestone, surpassing Gura's record of 13 days.
    • On 3 December, not a week after her debut, Chloe reached 500,000 subscribers on YouTube, breaking IRyS' record of fastest Hololive member to reach half a million subscribers.
    • Later, Salome Hyakumantenbara of Nijisanji would break Chloe's record and reach a million subscribers in thirteen days and a few hours.

    • Despite being a singer, IRyS can't read sheet music[44].

  • Regarding nature, her favorite season is spring as it represents hope. She would rather go to the beach than hike. Due to not knowing how to swim, she prefers hot springs. She also likes the sound of rain, but hates rain itself.
