ITV is a British media company that holds all 15 regional television licences that make up the ITV network (Channel 3), the oldest and largest commercial terrestrial television network in the United Kingdom.
History[]
ITV was stated first aired back on September 22, 1955, after they started the Television Act 1954, which started when Normal Collins wanted to break the monopoly on TV held by the BBC.[1] On December 7, 1978, ITV launches ITV2 when they began as an alternate programming, On November 1, 2004, ITV3 was launched. One year later, ITV4 was launched. On March 11, 2006, CITV was launched as a channel, and closed on September 1, 2023. On December 5, 2023, ITVX was launched.[2]
Channel[]
The YouTube channel was launched on June 19, 2006. However, until 2009, they didn't posted anything. ITV later uploaded their first video on November 15, 2009.[3]
Upcoming Freely Television[]
In 2024, BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, and ITV planned that they made as a Freely aired Television, it is announced to the public but the date was not yet announced.[4]
Uploading full episodes[]
In December 2024, ITV announced that it had signed a partnership deal with Google. This would allow ITV to feature full episodes of content broadcast by its networks, which would be uploaded to their YouTube channel.[5] However, much of this content is blocked outside the United Kingdom due to rights issues.

ITVX[]

ITVX, a UK streaming service launched in 2008, was closed on September 1, 2023, and was similar to BBC's iPlayer, featuring some shows.
ITV News[]

ITV News, launched alongside ITV1 on the same day, is a UK and overseas news channel similar to BBC News. With over 1.62 million subscribers, it has gained more subscribers on YouTube than the original channel.

From its launch (within 1959) until 2002, ITV was made of several regional networks, operating under the ITV banner. In 2002, regional identity was phased out in favor of the ITV1 branding which still continues to this day. Trivia[]
- ITV1 has broadcasted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and 2005.
- ITV2 has broadcasted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2004.
- The 2004 contest, originally planned for Manchester by Carlton Television for ITV,[7] was initially scheduled for Copenhagen.[8] However, due to financial and scheduling issues, ITV announced that the contest would not take place in the UK in May 2004.[9]
