Johannes Pietsch (born: April 29, 2001),[1] also known by his stage name JJ, is an Austrian singer-songwriter, best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 for Austria with the song "Wasted Love".[2]
History[]
Early life[]
Pietsch was born on April 29, 2001 in Vienna. He spent the majority of his life in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), which he was introduced to both pop and opera through karaokes.[3] In 2016, Pietsch, along with his family, moved back to Vienna.[4]
Musical career[]
Pietsch would start his musical career in 2020, with him appearing in the ninth series of The Voice UK after missing the deadline for The Voice of Germany.[5]
On January 30, 2025, Johannes Pietsch, also known as his stage name JJ, was announced as Austria's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.[6] His song, "Wasted Love", was released on March 6.[7] Austria qualified for the grand final, placing 5th with 104 points.[8] Austria would win the contest with 436 points.[9]
On September 5, JJ would release his 2nd single titled "Back to Forgetting".[10]

On July 21, 2012, Johannes Pietsch would create his first YouTube channel under the same name, and would upload his first and only video on August 20, 2018.[11]
JJ[]
On February 26, 2025, JJ would create his second YouTube channel under his stage name, JJ. He would upload his first video on February 28.[12]

On both channels, Pietsch's content consists of music, especially opera.
Trivia[]
- JJ can speak German, English, French and Tagalog.[13]
- JJ is queer,[14] and has stated that he has a boyfriend.[15]
- JJ is the first Eurovision Song Contest winner to be born in the 21st century and in the 2000s.[16]
- JJ is the first Eurovision Song Contest winner with a Southeast Asian descent.[17]
