“ | Good morning Jake Paulers! | ” |
―Jake's old intro |
Jake Joseph Paul[1] (born: January 17, 1997 ), is an American YouTuber, musician, actor, and professional boxer from Cleveland, Ohio. He is best known for the music video "It's Everyday Bro" with his group Team 10, as well as his vlogs and his boxing matches. He was one of the most-followed and viewed people on Vine along with his older brother Logan Paul.
After Vine shut down in January 2017, Jake transitioned to his YouTube channel full-time. As of February 2020, his YouTube channel has over 20 million subscribers and over 6 billion views making it the 40th most subscribed channel in United States. Jake is one of the most polarizing figures on YouTube.
Since his newfound YouTube fame, Jake surpassed his brother in popularity, who was more known a few years prior to Vine's closing. In addition to his YouTube channel and other social media he owns (which are, as well, growing fast) to further interact with his fans, he has acted for both YouTube Premium and television, most known for playing Dirk in the Disney Channel comedy Bizaardvark from June 2016 to July 2017. Since He left the cast due to controversies about him including inappropriate themes in his videos and both sides believing he should move on, ending his two-year contract with the company.
He currently resides in Miami, Florida. He formerly lived in Calabasas, California.
Biography
Nine months after Greg and Pamela Paul (now Pamela Stepnick due to remarriage) got married, their second son, Jake Paul, was born. Jake has claimed to be of Austrian-Jewish, English, German-Jewish, Hungarian-Jewish, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh ancestry.
Jake said in his "Draw My Life" video that he got his nice and caring side from his mother and his manly, hardworking side from his father.
His mother, a nurse, and father, a real estate agent, former military man, "instilled a great work ethic and competitive spirit from the time he can remember", Jake said.
He lived in a house with a large front and backyard and with his family would go to the woods, play sports, and "ride four wheelers".
Growing up, Jake, along with his older brother, Logan Paul, loved playing football. By the time he was ten, he started playing the sport at his local school's league, scoring 33% of the touchdowns in the game. Jake has stated that growing up, he and his brother always wanted to be the best at something. Therefore, they trained with their father to improve their football skills.
Logan also being good at the game inspired Jake to train harder, both of them always competing with each other. Determined, Jake and Logan used their footage from football games to see how they did and what to excel on with the camera their father bought them.
Filmed by their mother, who Jake says was their number one fan and his father, the head coach of their Peewee team, the Paul brothers also spent time filming each other doing random stuff which transitioned into skits and scripted content. Another one of the Paul brothers' hobbies was watching Smosh, who Jake says was their favorite YouTube channel which inspired them to create a YouTube channel called "Zoosh" which is still up online after it being created in YouTube's early years.
On the channel, they would upload the same type of videos in their free time which although Jake finds bad now, thought they were funny back then, so as their friends which made then continue for a while, in the process, trying to gain a following.
Around this time, after fighting for a period, Jake's parents divorced. Jake and his brother were shaken by the event but eventually learned that breakups and heartbreaks are a part of their life. Additionally, he benefited from "two Christmases".
Then middle school for Jake started. There, he was a "class clown", causing trouble, making jokes, and as he says, "couldn't sit still". Jake says it's because he didn't like school which he also states he still doesn't.
Jake eventually straightened up to go to his 8th grade multi-day trip to Washington D.C, as he, by the middle of his senior year in middle school had 14 behavioral strikes and couldn't go if he had 15.
When High School rolled around, he and Logan stopped making videos and started focusing more on football and wrestling, as well. Shortly afterwards Jake quit football and became more interested in wrestling, thus no longer wanting to be in the NFL in the process.
As a freshman, the older kids beat him on the Varsity team but he wasn't discouraged he says.
The following summer, Jake would get his first car; an all lifted black Jeep Rangler. Jake describes the Rangler as "fitting him perfectly". The same time, Jake and his brother would receive many clients for their landscaping business they made at that time which charged their clients ten dollars an hour. Working for large amounts of time allowed the Paul brothers to get more access for car gas and the privilege to take girls on dates.
Public image
Jake was beloved when he and his brother was on Vine through 2013 to 2016, and faced little criticism from his videos until he started to do YouTube full-time after the 6-second video app departed.
Jake has been accused of starting unnecessary drama, doing things to people he wouldn't like to get done to him (ex. Jake not liking when his brother, Logan vandalized his house although he did prior), click-baiting, appearing arrogant, mean and obnoxious alongside friends (many are social media affiliated celebrities) who also isn't well liked by some in the YouTube community.
Jake has gotten away with doing stunts and vandalizing property several times only to get away with it. Many think Jake's endeavors were risky and ignorant and he should be responsible for his actions.
Jake has also been slaughtered for making scripts for many of his videos instead of naturally talking to the camera, in turn, seeming cringy in his videos which some people see him as, especially when Jake uploads a new music video to his channel.
Due to negative reviews of him and his content since becoming a solo content creator, people are either envious and/or hateful of the success he maintains on YouTube by his fans he calls "Jake Paulers", friends and family still supporting him and according to mashoor his net worth is about $30 million.
Despite his haters vocalizing their opinion towards them, he is described by some as fun, talented and hardworking as he has a wide following at a young age, nice and handsome, usually by his fans who tend to be in the teenage girl demographic.
His fans have been described as illiterate, ignorant, young, having a lack of taste, and to be foolish in supporting Jake Paul.
Despite the ridicule of Jake's fans, most are supportive of him (alongside Team 10), both on (ex. Praising him on the internet) and offline (ex. Trying to meet up with Jake in person). His popularity has made him garner many likes, views, comments, and followers on his YouTube channel as well as other social media not only making him a much-discussed topic on the internet but outside of it too. His fame has made him meet and/or collaborate with a lot of famous people (ex. Being at a White House gathering for social media stars on January 5, 2017) and organizations or even mentioned by them.
Again, many disapprove of Jake's success saying that his presence is "killing" YouTube as many believe he is only doing it for money and fame. Some believe that he is not being genuine and humble just so he can be relevant on YouTube turning YouTube to be more of a business for celebrities and corporations, rather than a hobby for aspiring people.
Controversies
Vandalism
Jake Paul has been criticized for destroying his house for "fun" back in one of his vlogs he made in 2017. Many of his viewers said that Jake was privileged enough to own a big house and to destroy it for amusement was ungrateful, disrespectful and ignorant.
Later in 2017, Jake's neighbors reported to the Los Angeles Police Department and its city council of him and a group of people (Team 10 and friends) causing destruction to property around the neighborhood. Examples of the happening include fires and graffiti.
Jake's neighbors also complained about partying and pranking going around the neighborhood as well as loud noises from him and Team 10 (they live together) and an overwhelming number of his fans spontaneously visiting the Team 10's house after Jake had made his West Hollywood address public. Many around the area signed a petition to ensure "safety" and "peace" in the neighborhood. Jake nor Team 10 has not been charged with a crime or been evicted from their house but did pretend to on YouTube for a while causing negativity from viewers due to the misleading circumstance.
When asked by "Inside Edition" on his take on the matter, he refused to talk to them and left, on two different occasions. Jake's behavior was seen as rude and disruptive.
Due to the commotion from many people surrounding the incidents, Jake was fired from Disney, in the process being kicked off of his "Bizaardvark" show after being on it for a year and month during the middle of its second season.
A statement released from a Disney spokesperson concluded that the situation wasn't the only reason why Jake left. He said that Jake and he mutually agreed that Jake should move on due to Jake wanting to expand his YouTube channel, Team 10, and upcoming business ventures, including going into more adult acting roles. However, when he made the fake dox and hackervideo for publicity, he revealed that he had been fired from Disney, and while the dox and hacking were fake, the video was made at the old team 10 house. They made the video 2 months after leaving the house, showing that Jake did in fact get fired due to his actions.
In mid 2017, Jake made a video[2]in which he tried to gain support and show that he was a "good person". This didn't get many responses, positive or negative, except a song from jacksfilms, "Good people don't brag about how good they are"[3], although this was overlooked due to the huge Faze Banks drama that quickly followed.
Edfluence website scam
On January 3, 2018, Paul started the website Edfluence, a program claiming to teach younger people how to be successful, learn life skills, and earn money online. The course cost US$7 per user, which would allow the user to unlock a series of videos for a "roadmap" to success as an influencer. However, the seven dollars did not unlock the entire program, but only gave a few basic tips. Paul also promised his audience that if they joined the course, they would get to join "Team 1000", which did not happen. Following the situation, Paul was accused of scamming young followers and stealing their money. Then, two years later, on January 31, 2020, Edfluence was shut down, which stopped the course permanently.[4] On February 15, Paul announced that he would partner with Los Angeles-based brand development group GenZ Holdings Inc. to create a $19.99-per-month platform aimed at teaching children how to build an online presence.[5] "The Financial Freedom Movement" promises to give subscribers access to "Jake Paul’s personal experience, rituals and secret formula" and "cutting edge mentorship, coaching, and training".[6] The program has been criticized by some, with one interviewer questioning whether it would send a dangerous message to his young fanbase.
Content controversies
On January 3, 2018, Paul uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled "I lost my virginity" which used a thumbnail of himself and his then-girlfriend Erika Costell posing semi-nude on top of each other. The video was age-restricted by YouTube as a result, and critics such as Keemstar criticized the thumbnail as being inappropriate for his younger audience. The thumbnail was later changed with both Paul and Costell fully clothed and not touching each other.[7] Two days later, on January 5, TMZ revealed a video in which Paul used the N-word multiple times while freestyle rapping.[8]
MysteryBrand gambling website
On January 3, 2019, Paul, along with fellow YouTuber RiceGum, came under fire for promoting MysteryBrand, a website that offers the chance to open a digital "mystery box" of pre-selected items with a promise to win one in real life at random. Many users have said they have not received prizes they won through the site.[9]
Feud with Soulja Boy
In 2019, Paul published a tweet directed at Rapper Soulja Boy, saying "i wanna box @souljaboy",[10] to which Soulja Boy would respond with "boy I'll knock you out".[11] The two eventually confronted each other in person when Paul drove to Soulja Boy's house to confirm they would be participating in an official boxing match, which Paul had stated he would put twenty million dollars on.[12] Paul posted a video on YouTube the same day indicating his own status in the rematch between Logan Paul and KSI was undecided, leaving the official status of the fight between him and Soulja Boy in question.[13]
Altercation with Zayn Malik
On February 23, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Paul was involved in an altercation with British singer Zayn Malik at Westgate, the hotel near the MGM Grand Garden Arena at which the two were staying. Paul and Malik's rooms were right across from each other and when Paul's older brother, Logan, went to Paul's hotel room, an argument broke out between Malik and Paul because Paul believed Malik was using a rude tone. Following the interaction, Paul posted about it on Twitter, which drew attention from Malik's girlfriend and American model Gigi Hadid. Paul later deleted his tweets which criticized Malik and then posted another tweet stating that he tweeted about the incident since he was drunk, acknowledging the fact in a tweet later in the day, writing, "someone needs to take my phone when i'm drunk because I am a fucking idiot".[14] Logan released the video footage on the 161st episode of his podcast, Impaulsive, in which he explained the whole situation.[15]
Looting
On May 30, 2020, Paul and a few of his friends came to have dinner at P. F. Chang's outside of Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, Arizona, as part of the George Floyd protests, where it escalated quickly and people began looting the mall. Multiple instances of footage show Paul and his friends outside of a P. F. Chang's witnessing the riot and they made their way inside the mall where they documented the incident. People on social media criticized Paul for entering the mall and standing in the middle of the mall witnessing people looting stores.[16][17][18] Paul later apologized on social media condemning the violence, and also denied the accusations of looting, instead saying he was filming as a public service for a future video. Paul said, "We filmed everything we saw in an effort to share our experience and bring more attention to the anger felt in every neighborhood we travelled through; we were strictly documenting, not engaging."[19] On June 4, 2020, Paul was charged with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly, both misdemeanor charges, for being in the mall during the riot. On August 5, 2020, Paul's Calabasas mansion was raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In a statement to the Los Angeles Times the FBI stated, "The FBI is executing a federal search warrant at a residence in Calabasas in connection with an ongoing investigation." On the same day, the charges were dismissed without prejudice, the Scottsdale Police Department said it was "in the best interest of the community" and would allow a federal criminal investigation to be completed.[20] Paul also explained in a now-deleted video that the raid was "completely related to the looting controversy".[21] In August 2021 it was reported Paul would not face federal charges over the incident.[22][23]
COVID-19 controversies
On July 11, 2020, Paul threw a large party at his home in Calabasas, California, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Dozens of people attended without wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. After complaints from neighbors and videos surfaced on social media, Calabasas mayor Alicia Weintraub expressed outrage, saying, "They're having this large party, no social distancing, no masks, it’s just a big huge disregard for everything that everybody is trying to do to get things back to functioning." She continued, saying, "It's really just a party acting like COVID does not exist, it's acting that businesses aren't closed".[24][25][26] She later added that the city was looking into "all of our options" regarding penalties for Paul and the attendees of the party.[27]
On November 25, 2020, Paul attracted further COVID-related controversy due to statements in an interview with The Daily Beast. When interviewer Marlow Stern asked Paul if he regretted his words and actions regarding the July 11 party, Paul responded by saying that COVID-19 was a "hoax", also stating that "98 percent of news [about COVID-19] is fake", and that he believed the measures against COVID-19 in the United States should end, calling them "the most detrimental thing to our society." He then incorrectly stated that the flu had killed as many people in the United States in 2020 as COVID-19 did, and claimed that "Medical professionals have [recently] also said that masks do absolutely nothing to prevent the spread of coronavirus"; he later referred to said professionals as "dozens of my medical friends." When Stern tried to question his claims, Paul told Stern "You're arrogant. You're very arrogant", "you want clickbait", and "I've never even heard of you."[28][29][30] The interview sparked condemnation from various individuals and media outlets, such as Page Six, and fellow YouTuber Tyler Oakley, who called Paul "aggressively ignorant" and "embarrassing."[31]
Sexual assault allegations
On April 9, 2021, Justine Paradise uploaded a video[32] talking about how she was sexually assaulted by Jake Paul. According to her, while they lived together, Jake once took her to his room, kissed her, then grabbed her hands and forced her to perform oral sex on him. She never told anyone as she had signed an NDA when she joined Team 10 (NDAs do not uphold if a crime has been committed). The video garnered over a million views and Justine received an outpouring of support from most people including h3h3Productions[33] and Trisha Paytas,[34] however a lot of people, even detractors of Jake Paul, were suspicious. People brought up parallels to the Slazo drama and said that if Justine really was sexually assaulted, she should have taken it to the police instead of social media. They also pointed out that the timing itself was suspicious too - Alissa made the video around the same time Paul would get his payday, and she also made TikToks teasing who her assaulter would be. The video has 48K likes versus 26K dislikes. The rest of her vlogs have also accumulated a large number of dislikes.
On the Frenemies podcast, Trisha pointed out that for several sexual assault victims, it takes time to heal from trauma and understand what happened, and that is why sometimes they tend to repress emotions. Ethan himself said "Women are just...their whole experience is so much different then men’s and it’s like been kind of like swept under the rug or a secret and just totally not...like men as a whole as a gender have not have had the amount of sympathy of the female sexual experience.". Even Alissa Violet has said that in the past, when girls would audition for Team 10, Jake would try to sleep with them.
Jake himself responded[35][36] to the allegations, calling them "complete bullshit" and saying that he "never laid a finger on a girl without their consent" and that he was "a momma's boy who respected women", which was ridiculed online. He also said that around the time he was already in a relationship with Violet.
Investigation in Puerto Rico
On May 15, 2021, Paul was investigated by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources for riding a motorized vehicle on Puerto Rico's beaches, seen on a video that was posted online but then removed. It is illegal to ride motorized vehicles on Puerto Rico's beaches in order to protect natural wildlife such as sea turtles. Paul apologized stating he had intended no harm.[37][38]
Safemoon crypto scam
On February 18, 2022, in a class-action lawsuit filed against the cryptocurrency company SafeMoon that alleged the company is a pump and dump scheme, Paul was named as a defendant along with musician Nick Carter, rappers Soulja Boy and Lil Yachty, and social media personality Ben Phillips for promoting the SafeMoon token on their social media accounts with misleading information as part of the 2022 Safemoon fraud allegations.[39][40] On the same day, the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a lawsuit against Bitconnect that the Securities Act of 1933 extends to targeted solicitation using social media. In March 2022, YouTuber Coffeezilla uploaded a video in which he accused Paul of using cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens to scam his fans out of $2.2 million.[41]
SEC fine
In March 2023, Paul was among eight celebrities including Actress Lindsay Lohan, Rapper Soulja Boy and Lil Yachty was charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, with violating investor protection laws by promoting cryptocurrencies without disclosing that he had been sponsored to do so. He settled the charges for over $400,000 without admitting or denying the claims.[42][43]

A few days before the fight, Deji showed up at one of Jake and Logan Paul's meet and greets, Jake responded by slapping Deji in the face. One of Deji's friends attacked Greg Paul, Jake and Logan's dad. Jake Paul and Deji also released disstracks on each other.
Jake Paul won the boxing match, however Deji gave him a bloody nose. When Deji was in Los Angeles to make an appearance on Impaulsive, Jake said he would accept Deji's request for a rematch at his place, Deji didn't go because he was advised not to.[44] Jake proceeded to call out American singer-songwriter Chris Brown,[45] saying "I know you were supposed to fight Soulja Boy. But I think it is time you got in the ring with someone your own size.”[46]
Professional career

Robinson was dropped late in the first round, and subsequently appeared disoriented in the ring and in his corner. In the second round, he continued to rush forward and was dropped twice by Paul, with the second causing Robinson to fall face first to the canvas, unconscious. On Mike Tyson's podcast, UFC President Dana White stated that he would be willing to bet $1 million on Jake Paul losing to Askren. Jake Paul responded to White's statement with excitement, and offered to double the wager. Rapper Snoop Dogg also responded to Dana White's declaration, offering to bet $2 million on Jake Paul winning the fight.
Paul defeated Askren via TKO in the first round.[59] The event reportedly made 1.45 million pay-per-view buys as per Triller, however, the legitimacy of both the match and the numbers of the event have been heavily questioned by multiple personalities, fans, MMA fighters and boxers alike.[60][61][62]

This is a fight."[111] On April 10, Paul confirmed that they will be submitting a request to the Texas Combative Sports Program for the bout to be sanctioned as a professional bout.[112] On May 31, it was announced that the fight was postponed after Tyson suffered an ulcer flare up aboard a plane.[113] On June 7, it was announced that the fight will take place at the same arena on November 15, 2024.[114]

After the fight, KSI called out Jake and Logan Paul to an amateur bout. Initially, both Paul bothers declined KSI's offer and instead insisted that KSI should fight their father Greg Paul, or challenge them to an MMA fight. After constant back and forth, it was scheduled that KSI would fight Logan and Jake would fight Deji, KSI's younger brother, at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England on 25 August 2018.[116] Jake won via technical knockout against Deji in the fifth round while KSI and Logan resulted in a majority draw.[117][118] KSI and Logan then had a professional rematch on 9 November 2019 resulting in KSI winning via split decision.[119]

Paul won via technical knockout at 2:18 in the first round.[121] After the fight, KSI and Paul exchanged words on stage.[122] KSI and Paul were then expected to face each other however on 23 March, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the first national lockdown in the United Kingdom in responds to the COVID-19 pandemic which prevented KSI from being able to train for the bout.[123]

On that night, KSI defeated both Swarmz and Pineda via second and third round knockout.[132][133][134] Originally, KSI was set to face American YouTuber Alex Wassabi but was removed from the fight after sustaining a concussion.[135] After Wassabi pulled from the fight, Paul took it to Twitter to call out KSI and offer him as his Wassabi's replacement. KSI declined his offer and stated that they already contracted another fighter incase Wassabi were to pull from the fight. On 8 August however, KSI tweeted an offer to Paul stating that they will fight in 2023 at Wembley Stadium with the winner taking 100% of the purse made from the event.[136][137] Paul reasoned to KSI's offer and accepted the deal.[138]

KSI responded demanding the fight takes place in December at 185 Ibs.[152] The following day on 2 June, Mams Taylor confirmed that Paul will be receiving a contract for either December or February at 185 Ibs.[153] On 8 June, KSI uploaded a YouTube video proposing one final offer to Paul for May 2025 at 185 Ibs with the option to have the bout take place in the US rather than England.[154] However, Paul's manager and Most Valuable Promotions co-president Nakisa Bidarian stated that Paul is booked for May, and suggested February again.[155] Taylor responded to Bidarian and accepted the offer.[156] On 17 June however, Taylor confirmed that team Paul have been "radio silence" in negations.[157]
