Jason Joel Desrouleaux (born: September 21, 1989 (1989-09-21) [age 35]), known by his stage name Jason Derulo, is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and TikTok personality.

Early life[]

Derulo was born in Miramar, Florida to Haitian parents. He started singing at a young age. He attended performing arts schools in Florida and made some early attempts at music composition, writing his first song at the age of eight. His writing skills began attracting attention when he was a teenager. He also wrote "Bossy" for Birdman, a New Orleans-based rapper, and made a guest appearance on the song, highlighting his ability as a vocalist.

Career[]

Derulo has been writing songs for many artists at a young age, artists include Diddy, Lil Wayne, and Sean Kingston. Derulo was later discovered by music producer J.R. Rotem and was signed by Beluga Heights Records and Warner Bros. Records. On August 4th, 2009, Derulo released his debut single "Watcha Say" and became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. He later released singles "In My Head" and "Ridin Solo", which both songs charting the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. On March 2nd, 2010, Derulo released his debut album Jason Derulo, which charted number 11 on the Billboard 200.

In 2011, Derulo released his second album Future History, which was featured singles "Don't Wanna Go Home" and "It Girl". The album debuted number 29 on the Billboard 200.

In 2013, Derulo released his third album, Tattoos, which featured guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, and Pitbull. The albums singles included "Talk Dirty", which charted number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Wiggle", which charted number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, "The Other Side", and "Trumpets". The album was known as Talk Dirty in the United States, and charted number four on the Billboard 200

In 2015, Derulo became a judge on So You Think You Can Dance. He also released his fourth album Everything is 4. The album featured the single "Want to Want Me", which charted number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2017, Derulo released a music video of his single titled "Swalla" (directed by Gil Green) with Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign, where the shots of the pink ladies playing instruments resembles Stephanie from the Icelandic kids show LazyTown, also a meme at this point, including Robbie Rotten's (portrayed by Stefan Karl) clone from the show's Season 3 episode Who's Who?, and they're similar to the bob hair dancers from the Cbeebies spin-off LazyTown Extra/Action Time, seen on Stephanie's moves. Their features, also differ from this with the character, including with the hairband, and blue lip coloring, which favors Sportacus in particular.

In May 2020, Derulo confirmed that after a lengthy negotiation, he had left his record contract with Warner Bros. Records due to creative differences.

In 2020, Derulo released a song titled "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" with Jawsh 685, which became very popular on TikTok. The song charted number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In August 2020, Derulo collaborated with SML to make a video consisting of a chef puppet (Chef Pee Pee) becoming Derulo's personal chef, in which Derulo is shown mainly at the beginning. A few days before the video released, Derulo made a TikTok with SML consisting of Chef Pee Pee making food for Derulo.

In November 2020, Derulo collaborated with Nuka to make "Love Not War (The Tampa Beat), In January 2021, Derulo collaborated with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 for "Lifestyle"

In June, Jason collaborated with Tesher for Jalebi Baby

On September 3rd, Derulo released Acapulco. His first single in 3 Months

Derulo became a very popular personality on TikTok. He has over 33 million followers and is the 12th most followed individual on the platform. His content on TikTok though, has started to gain criticism by other online creators for his blatant content theft, masked as reaction content.[1] Youtuber Jacksfilms, exposed this tactic along with showcasing that Derulo, doesn't even react to the videos he features on his Youtube Shorts, but instead, he reuses small clips of himself inserted over other users' original content.[2]
