Joel Guerra (born: June 4, 1992 (1992-06-04) [age 32]), nicknamed Joel G (formerly Skull Link and Phantom Link), is a Peruvian YouTuber, animator, artist, and director. He is the creator of several online animated series, which include ENA, Hands Up, 2 Ants 1 President, and Dora the Teenager.

He originally made two separate channels; most of his videos are now private. His videos originally consisted of parodies of Splatoon, Attack on Titan, Undertale, and other media. His art style is mostly a blend of anime and cartoons. Joel has become popular online for his characters and series such as ENA and Hands Up.

Series[]

ENA[]

ENA is an avant-garde, comedy series created in 2020. The series is about two characters named ENA and Moony going on several, strange adventures while meeting new people and surrealistic environments. Its style is similar to retro 90s computers and PC video games. The first episode is in the style of a simple skit until the next two episodes, which take place from ENA's perspective, similarly to maze video games. The latest episode, "Power of Potluck", was released on November 28, 2023. ENA became hugely popular with fan art and theories. Three episodes have been produced so far, with a new entry in the series called Dream BBQ, a video game and animation, coming soon.

Hands Up[]

Hands Up is an action-comedy series created in 2018 in collaboration with Mizu Wolf. The story centers around two government agents, Margo and Ula going on several missions. However, the mostly dedicated Ula has to deal with Margo's laziness. There are currently six episodes with several short animations. The style is similar to stylistic anime such as works by Studio Trigger. Some of the episodes are music videos either sung by the characters or from other musicians. Hands Up has also become very popular, especially the characters Margo and Ula.

2 Ants 1 President[]

2 Ants 1 President is a series created in 2016 about two ants, named Derek and Melvin who plan to rebel against a corrupt president. They also meet a self-aware robot named Hally who works at a weapons factory. While the series is still ongoing, there are currently two episodes having been released three years ago. The style is mainly based on retro 80's anime and crime series, even down to the quality looking similar to an old television screen. The series is relatively well known, mostly the character Hally.

Dora the Teenager[]

Dora the Teenager is a parody series about the Dora the Explorer character Dora Márquez having to deal with the difficult life of high school while being teased about her TV series. The series used to be on Joel G's channel, but all of the episodes are now private on his channel. But there are re-uploads and reactions that still exist of the first episode. The first episode was on Joel's English channel while the rest where on his Spanish channel. The series has an anime art style.

Trivia[]

  • He has an abandoned channel called PL, which consisted of his animations but in Spanish.
  • In the Hands Up episode, The Void, Ula comments that Margo's color scheme is not creative. This could be a reference to Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.
  • One episode of Hands Up, The Plan could be inspired by the rhythm video game, PaRappa the Rapper.
  • Several of ENA's movements are based on the music video, "Once in a Lifetime" by the Talking Heads.[2]

  • Most of ENA's aesthetic came from video games like LSD: Dream Emulator, The Town With No Name, and Middens.[3]
  • Multiple characters in ENA speak different languages but there are subtitles in the videos. However, people found out that they're incorrect and the actual translations are more cryptic and abstract.[4]
  • There are several Easter eggs on his website Joelgc.com that can be found. One example is pressing the X button on the website multiple times, which will result in a GIF of ENA and Moony dancing.
  • Anime voice actress Lizzie Freeman voices ENA and Ula.
    • Sr Pelo also guest stars in the ENA episode, Temptation Stairway where he plays as the Merchant.
  • He was interviewed by YouTube animator, HBruna about his short, Deadline. The interview is in Spanish.[5]
  • The inspiration for the Hourglass Dog came from his pet dog named Dona.[6]
  • Joel will occasionally live stream on Twitch where he will speak in Spanish and English.
  • There is a fan holiday called ENA Day that's celebrated on February 23, which was the day Joel first introduced ENA in 2020.[7]
  • On June 25, 2022, Joel's YouTube channel was briefly hacked[8] and renamed to "Tesla [Inc]", impersonating Tesla.[9] All of Joel's videos were privated, instead posting a live stream, disguised as Elon Musk talking about cryptocurrency news,[10] when in fact it was random stock photos over SpaceX launch/landing footage.
    • Eventually, Joel recovered most of his channel, uploading the previously privated videos and changing the banner.
