Kier and Dev (stylized as KIER and DEV) is a Canadian gaming YouTuber duo consisting of Kier (the red half of their icon, birthday: March 13)[1] and Dev (the blue half of their icon, birthday: June 13)[1] who upload Minecraft videos.
Personal life[]
In real life, Kier and Dev are best friends. They met in middle school due to their shared interest in the game Geometry Dash.[2]
Content[]
They are known for publishing Minecraft gameplay videos on their shared channel, particularly of Minecraft Manhunts with twists to diversify the content.
They have had multiple series on their channel based on some of their most successful videos, including "Minecraft, But The Game Tries To Kill You Every 60 Seconds," "Minecraft Manhunt, But I'm A Redstone Master," and "Minecraft Manhunt, But We All Have Different Twists." Additionally, sometimes the twists they will choose are based off of a previous video, either conceived as a revenge plot or being inspired from an aspect of a previous video.
On their DEV and KIER channel, they upload a variety of Minecraft content outside of their usual Manhunts. On this channel, they have uploaded Q&A videos, edited stream VODs, and a series of eight consecutive challenge videos between them and their friends.
History[]
Kier and Dev each had individual channels before their combined KIER and DEV channel, however all videos on both channels have since been made private.[3] They joined YouTube with their new channel on November 3, 2019. Their first currently public videos were about playing Minecraft minigames on Hypixel after not playing the game for over five years, with these videos gaining a small amount of traction. They also made videos about finding various YouTubers in a Minecraft world, as well as multiple survival series and challenge videos in Minecraft.
They uploaded their first Minecraft Manhunt video on May 9, 2020, doing one without a twist. They uploaded two more manhunts by October of that year, primarily focusing on other content during that time. On October 30th, they commented on one of Boosfer's videos suggesting a collaboration.[4] They started to be featured in Boosfer's manhunt videos not long afterwards, and ended up directing attention to their channel as well. Boosfer's channel began climbing in popularity after Kier and Dev became recurrent in his videos, growing their own channel along with it. Soon after, they started to upload Minecraft Manhunts more often, sometimes featuring Boosfer and his friends. Eventually, on June 13th, 2021, they passed Boosfer in subscribers with their manhunt videos.[5]

MC Championship[]
MC Championship is a Minecraft Tournament for YouTubers and streamers run by the Noxcrew, in which 10 teams of four compete in a series of 8 minigames decided by the participants. A point multiplier makes each game worth more as each round passes, incentivizing teams to vote for games they might be bad at early on in the event. In the end, the two teams with the most points face off in a round of ‘Dodgebolt’ to decide the winner of the tournament. This makes it possible for a team to win despite potentially having fewer points than the runner-up.
MCC Rising was an event organised by the Noxcrew that took place on October 2, 2021, in order to give smaller "rising" streamers a chance to play. Creators of all sizes were invited to apply for the event, the only requirements being that they didn't already play in the main event and that they were able to stream it.
- MC Championship Rising: Team Cyan Coyotes. Teamed with Boosfer and YelloWool. Dev placed 4th individual, Kier placed 2nd individual, and their team placed 1st overall in coins, though they didn't win the event.
Trivia[]
- Their most popular video "Minecraft Manhunt, But I'm A Redstone Master..." has been viewed more than 3,000,000 times.
- They are part of a group called the "Color Crew" who they frequently collaborate with, with the other members being Boosfer, YelloWool, and Bubbo, along with other friends such as Qndres and Jackattack.
- They have many running jokes throughout their videos (mostly spawned by Kier), including #addwhalestominecraft, the Dark Forest Oak biome, wallpaper (a.k.a. Glow Lichen), Kier's Dad (both working at Mojang and being in a relationship with Boosfer), the fictitious characters Podrick and Doug, Kier's "lettuce" (hair), Boosfer's diamond pyramid, and many others.
- In MCC Rising, their team managed to get a record kill count in Survival Games, killing 22 out of the 36 other contestants, with Kier getting 7 kills and Dev getting 3.
- They have a running gag of putting on strange or funny skins for many videos they're in.[19][20]
