―One of KonekoKitten's many outros

Brian Ceja[3] (born: December 18, 1998 (1998-12-18) [age 25]), better known online as KonekoKitten (or simply Koneko), is an American former YouTuber and Twitch streamer known for his Roblox commentary and news videos.

Previously uploading gameplay videos, he switched to commentary after his channel grew popular in summer 2018.

In addition to commentary, he was known for his skill at the Roblox games Arsenal and Doomspire Brickbattle. His avatar is composed of glasses, purple accessories and body, and a yellow head.

Currently, Ceja is going on an indefinite hiatus online due to a controversy. He decided to hide both YouTube channels KonekoKitten and Koneko, and everyone thought he deleted them. His videos can now only be watched via archives (YouTube channels: KonekoKitten Reuploaded, KonekoKitten - Archive) and Wayback Machine/Archive.org. He still has ≈3 channels; one of which has been long inactive.

About

Personal life

Brian Ceja was born on December 18, 1998,[4] in Chesterfield, Virginia, United States. His parents are Christian and of Mexican descent.[5][6] He has three brothers, two of whom are named Chase and Nick. His family later moved to Florida, United States.[7]

Ceja grew up with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which affected his communication skills as a child. In middle school, he had trouble making friends.[8] it was also stated in his video "why is roblox MAD at this...". He has CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as well[citation needed]. In November 2019, he learned he was diagnosed with hyperkalemic periodic paralysis as a child.[9] He has relatives who have died due to drug addiction.[10]

Teenage years

Ceja dropped out of high school as a teenager in 2016, having gotten in trouble for truancy.[11] His nickname in high school was "Sleepy" due to sleeping in class often.[12] He worked as a Subway sandwich artist[13] from 2016 to 2018, discharging his shift manager after a complaint. He quit his job in 2018 to become a full-time YouTuber.[14]

Current life

Ceja currently lives with his cats Zoey and Gummi in the state of Florida.[15] He is an active investor and day trader. He is 6'3" (191 centimeters) tall[16] and weighs just under 200 pounds (91 kilograms). Previously being nonreligious, he has been Christian since c. April 2023 and regularly partakes in bible studies.[17] On December 25, 2020, he announced that he planned to move to a bigger apartment.[18] On June 24, 2021, he announced that he would be moving in with his boyfriend.[19]

As of 2021, Ceja lives with his brother and one other roommate.

Switch to YouTube

Brian's earlier videos often contained mild harsh language and inappropriate references, similar to Flamingo's videos under the channel AlbertsStuff. Before 2018, his videos focused on comedic commentary and RoBeats! gameplay.

After gaining popularity among younger Roblox players, Brian switched his style of content to less inappropriate topics and more child-friendly language. However, he still discusses mature themes in his videos such as truancy, sexuality, and legal issues pertaining to scamming, hacking, and copyright laws on Roblox and YouTube.

Sexuality and gender

On October 21, 2019, Brian came out as transgender through a tweet, but would later retract his statement on December 17, 2019.[20] He is pansexual,[21] and has suffered from depression as a result of gender dysphoria. It's currently unknown if he is still pansexual as this may have changed from his newer content. He also claims to be greysexual.[22]

History

Before Brian gained a large following, he primarily uploaded Minecraft content. During that time, his YouTube name was KittenPlaysMC. He used to upload facecam commentary videos but decided that drama should not be the primary focus of his channel.

Brian started uploading Roblox content in 2016. The video that garnered traction for his YouTube channel was "Fortnite, but made by 12 year olds on Roblox", posted at the beginning of summer 2018.[23]

On June 19, 2019, Brian uploaded a Brick Hill gameplay video after discovering it through Google, referring to the game as a Roblox clone and joking about uploading Brick Hill content instead of Roblox content. Soon after the video was published, a co-founder of Brick Hill claimed that the internet traffic had crashed the game’s servers. As an acknowledgment, Brick Hill created the Flower Hat, based on his Roblox avatar's Happy Time Magic Flower Hat. Soon after, he uploaded another video playing Brick Hill and discussed the creation of the Flower Hat. His Brick Hill gameplay videos ultimately resulted in an increase of 20,000 players by three days after the videos were uploaded, and the game reached a milestone of 100,000 accounts soon after.

In 2020, Brian started to shift away from Roblox content. This was pushed further in August 2023 as he focused on his second channel due to losing interest in Roblox related content. He stated he did not quit making Roblox content but his priorities have shifted to the Koneko channel instead.

Roblox Video Stars Program

In the summer of 2019, Brian received an opportunity to join the Roblox Video Stars Program after contacting Roblox about his channel. He was told he met all criteria but could not be officially invited unless he removed all videos negatively portraying other players and Roblox YouTubers (drama-related videos), as it was against the Roblox Video Stars Program's interests (he linked to some videos as an example).

In order to reach a final decision, Brian created a video generally describing the situation, and asking his viewers if he should comply with the criteria to join or not join.[24] In a later video, Brian stated he was able to communicate with the lead of the program, where he discussed the contract(s) and other confidential items concerning the program.

Brian was left with an agreement where Roblox would review the content of his videos, with Roblox reaching back to further discuss the program. However, instead of this occurring, three weeks of no communication with Roblox followed. During these three weeks, Brian decided to not join the program to prevent a "content lock" on his channel, not wanting a corporation to control what videos he uploaded.[25]

Controversies

Naku

In a series of tweets around October 16, 2020, Brian responded to accusations[26] that he was in what could be considered a pedophilic relationship. Brian stated, "here's the scoop. naku and i began dating with a 4 year gap." Brian, ostensibly confirming the allegations, went on to explain his position with statements such as, "i should've held off on getting into that relationship," and, "i find there to be a massive difference between someone intentionally going after someone for them being younger and someone that literally just didn't realize it was creepy."[27]

Brian and Naku have since parted, this being confirmed in a now-deleted tweet by Koneko himself.[28]

Special usernames

On October 29, 2018, Brian received backlash from uploading a video about specific special usernames on Roblox, causing Roblox to delete users such as "Мастер" and "maël4000". Due to this, he responded with another video stating it was a coincidence the special usernames were reset at the time of his video.[29]

Other channels

Second channel

Brian has a second YouTube account named "Koneko" in which he uploads gameplay of StepManiaX, Minecraft, Sound Voltex, Geometry Dash and Friday Night Funkin', as well as other commentary and gaming videos. In one video named 'Who is Koneko?', he explained his alternative content in which he is his 'adult self' and swears a lot, compared to the PG 'KonekoKitten' channel. As of recently however, he's been uploading content of him heading to the gym or being outside.

Third channel and demonetization

Brian has a third channel named "Koneko" which consisted of Fortnite and Minecraft videos, currently featuring only one video. Shortly after uploading his first video, the Koneko channel was no longer monetized, meaning he could not receive ad revenue. On his main channel, Brian posted a video on how and why, which ended up being due to putting the wrong AdSense when making the channel. The channel was renamed "THIS CHANNEL IS DEAD GO SUB TO THE NEW ONE", and Brian made a new channel under the same name as before.
