Laura Kate Dale (born September 14, 1991 (1991-09-14)), better known online as LauraKBuzz, is an American journalist and YouTuber who makes videos about gaming.

Content

Laura considers herself a "critic of internet butts" and makes videos about video games, especially games like Mass Effect and Super Mario. Laura has also made videos on Among Us, Pokemon Go and The Last of Us 2. As a transwoman, she talks about video games that represent transwomen, and also talks about video games that represent disabilities, as she herself has autism, ADHD and dyslexia. She praised the Last of Us 2 and Ring Fit Adventure for their portrayals of disabled characters, but still thinks games as a whole need to do a better job of portraying and accommodating disabled people.

Controversy

Persona 5 article

Laura, being a writer for Kotaku, wrote an article claiming that the game Persona 5 had a song where it called the players "r*******". However this was not true - the lyric in fact was something else but Laura misheard it. This article has quickly received a lot of criticism and blowback over the internet. A popular claim is that the lyric is actually "Retort it" or "Retarget" but because the singer, Lyn, is not a native English speaker (she's Japanese) she was unable to clearly enunciate it, making this analysis of her non-native pronunciation as a slur in poor taste. Initially, in response, Kotaku updated the article saying they have contacted Nintendo and Deep Silver, who publish the Persona 5 DLC and Persona 5 itself respectively and who have not responded. Laura Kate Dale also made a number of Tweets defending her article, claiming it was only meant to be published after contacting Atlus or Nintendo but that Kotaku published it prematurely. Several YouTubers such as Penguinz0 called her out. Eventually Kotaku apologized.
