Lauren Elise Donovan born: June 30, 1994 (1994-06-30) [age 30])[1], (born Lauren Yu Sum Tam[2]) and known professionally as Lauren Chen, and formerly known as Roaming Millennial, was a Canadian-born political commentator on YouTube and Evie Magazine contributor[3]. She also hosted the show Psuedo-Intellectual with Lauren Chen on BlazeTV. She covered political topics from a Christian Conservative perspective.

Personal Life[]

Lauren was born in Canada, raised in Hong Kong, and has also lived in Shanghai, Singapore and London, attending American International Schools the entire time. She's went to college in California and Utah, before returning to Canada for some time. Now, she resides in Nashville, Tennessee, which she alongside her husband Liam Donovan made a permanent move in part to escape from Justin Trudeau's government. Lauren has a dog named Jellybean, and a daughter born in 2022, named Riley.

YouTube Career[]

Chen's first videos were cartoon based with South Park looking characters, covering cultural and political[4] issues. She then featured many interviews of figures ranging from Jordan Peterson, Senator Marsha Blackburn, Michael Shermer, founder of The Skeptics Society, and YouTuber Milo Stewart. [5] From 2019 to 2020, she produced a commentary show for BlazeTV titled Pseudointellectual[6]. She returned to BlazeTV in 2022, and contributes up to four videos a week. As of 2021, she produces commentary videos independently on her channel and hosts the podcast No Malarkey with Marie Oakes.

Mediaholic[]

Mediaholic was Lauren's pop culture oriented YouTube channel. She often does commentary on various pop culture subjects in the realm of movies, TV shows and video games, like Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mediaholic often covers "woke" controversies, and lampoons woke products that she states are also bad such as Velma, Elemental, The Witcher: Blood Origin, Strange World, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and more.

Notably, many videos featured a guest appearance from Lauren's father at the end (often referred to as "Papa Chen"), who delivered his own thoughts on the subject.

Religious views[]

Chen identifies as a Christian nationalist[7], and claims that "Christianity is the only path away from degeneracy."[8] She has also collaborated with the controversial Christian duo Girl Defined. Chen claims the duo "do an amazing job" and are "a great resource."[9]

Modern western society is a hot bed of degeneracy. [...] I don’t advocate for or support modern progressive secularism.

―Lauren Chen's grievance with modern Western society.[10]

I honestly find it really really hard to defend what the West has become sometimes. Just on principle, I think right now, a crusade may be exactly what we need.

―Lauren Chen on saving the West.[11]

She claims that separation of church and state, equality of races and sexes (politically for the sexes), are biblical. She also believes there is a breakdown of the family and that there is a rise of narcissistic hedonism and that it is degenerate. [12]

Lastly, she claims that Christians are happier than atheists. [13]

Views on Feminism[]

Chen is against modern feminism. She purports herself to be a traditional woman, writing articles for Evie Magazine [14] against hookup culture and modern dating culture and making a video for PragerU about how women should date with a purpose: to get married. [15] She is against casual sex. She’s claimed that masculinity is under attack by feminists, that “men are more effeminate now than they used to be”, and that masculinity isn’t appreciated as much anymore. [16]

Controversies[]

Chen has claimed The Bell Curve is factual, [17] a book that addresses a difference in IQ between ethnic groups and how intelligence affects their ability to rise out of poverty. White nationalists have used this as an argument for white racial supremacy. She claims the author of this book Charles Murray is not racist. She herself believes that IQ is mostly genetic. [18]

Richard Spencer Interview[]

In May 2017, Chen hosted a three-part interview with Alt-Right leader Richard Spencer, asking questions regarding what the Alt Right is about.[19] Chen received criticism for her approach to this interview, most notably from the YouTuber ContraPoints. In response, Chen defended Spencer by claiming "No one (Richard Spencer included) is advocating people be killed"[20] and asking, "Has it occurred to you that maybe he isn't exactly what the media has been trying to push?" [21] In November 2019, Milo Yiannopoulos leaked an audio of Richard Spencer going on a racist, anti-Semitic tirade during the deadly Unite the Right rally.[22]

It sounds a lot like your problem with the interview was that Richard Spencer came across too well. That he represented his points too reasonably.

―Lauren Chen[23]

It's interesting how those criticizing the interview have decided to attack me but have yet to argue against anything Spencer said in it.

―Lauren Chen[24]

I don't know if you guys saw this interview I did with Roaming Millennial (Lauren Chen) but she's a very nice girl; she's very smart. She's basically like an alt-right..I guess sympathetic? She's not really alt-right. She's half Chinese. I think her dad is Chinese. Something like that. But she's a very genuine person. Like again, it's not her fault she's mixed. She's a genuine person and she's open to it.

―Richard Spencer[25]

Nick Fuentes[]

Chen defended right-wing podcaster and provocateur Nick Fuentes on at least three occasions. The first was when he called on his followers (known as Groypers) to hijack multiple TPUSA speaking event at Ohio State University, after Kirk, along with Ben Shapiro repeatedly avoided debates with him. During the event's Q&A section, the Groypers asked questions as, "How does anal sex help us win the culture war?" referring to Turning Point USA's Rob Smith, a homosexual. Another Groyper told the crowd to Google "dancing Israelis", which is in reference to a conspiracy theory alleging that Israel was responsible for 9/11.[26] Following the event, Twitter user Will Chamberlain uploaded a clip of Fuentes going on a rant against Turning Point USA's support of Israel.[27] Chen replied in a now deleted tweet by stating, "I don't know about the rest of Fuentes' views, but there's nothing antisemitic in this clip. Is it really that outrageous to ask why TPUSA focuses so much on Israel?"[28] When Fuentes confronted Chen about deleting the tweet, she clarified, "I deleted the tweet because I was told those guys were from Politicon, not TPUSA. That aside though, I do stand by what I said."[29]

The second time was after MTV released a documentary titled "White Supremacy Destroyed My Life",[30] which focused in part on Fuentes's alleged hateful rhetoric. Chen released her own video titled "MTV SCAMS Nick Fuentes."[31]

In 2021, Lauren defended Nick after he was put on a no-fly-list.

Lauren Southern[]

Chen has defended Lauren Southern, Brittany Sellner, and Martin Sellner, after they were detained and banned from the UK, [32] attributing it to a lack of freedom of speech in Europe. Their motives for coming to the UK were to interview Tommy Robinson, while Martin was planned to host an event.

Department of Justice Investigation[]

In September of 2024, the US Department of Justice released an indictment about a secret Russian influence operation to manipulate US politics. Two Russian state actors, operating under pseudonyms, had been in steady contact with Tenet Media, a company founded and run by Lauren Chen and her husband. Tenet Media is a social media influencer management company for political ccommentary.

While Tenet Media wasn't explicitly named as being the company in question, news outlets were able to confirm the identity[33]. The indictment alleges that Tenet Media knew they were interacting with Russians. It also alleges Tenet Media communicated fake ownership data to its influencers under management, namely a non-existent European investor. Tenet Media also allegedly complied with producing propaganda material about the Islamic State terror attack on a Moscow theatre, being told by the Russian state operatives to frame it as a US-Ukraine attack. The indictment quotes Tenet Media as having responded "happy to cover it". The DOJ indictment furthermore includes the following assessment[34]:

While the views expressed in the videos [produced under Lauren Chen's Tenet Media] are not uniform, the subject matter and content of the videos are often consistent with the Government of Russia's interest in amplifying U.S. domestic divisions in order to weaken U.S. opposition to core Government of Russia interests, such as its ongoing war in Ukraine

While neither Lauren nor her husband have faced any charges, she has since been fired from BlazeTV over these allegations[35], and her main channel as well as Mediaholic and Tenet Media have been terminated by YouTube.

Views on immigration[]

Chen is opposed to open borders and globalism. She believes that limiting the amount of immigration will lower the chances of "cultural ghettos" from forming, and increase chances of them assimilating into American culture.

The Great Replacement[]

On several occasions, Chen has made comments hinting at belief in the Great Replacement conspiracy theory.

I'm not an ethno-nationalist...but...with the dangers of, you know, population replacement, I do believe that that is still a danger even when talking about high IQ immigrants, and I do believe that, you know, if we were to just open up the United States even to large numbers of skilled immigrants from, let’s say India and China, that, you know, there would be potential danger to American culture, right?

―Lauren Chen[36]

I definitely don't want to see whites extinct from the planet at all, and I think if we look at the regressive left, there are active, I think, efforts to try and discourage white people from doing things like having children, to try and encourage population replacement.

―Lauren Chen[37]

Progressives: Don’t have kids because of climate change. Also progressives: There aren’t enough people here, so we better invite in a ton of migrants to take our place. Also progressives again: Demographic replacement is a conspiracy theory.

―Lauren Chen[38]

Views on abortion[]

Chen is against abortion. She claimed on Twitter that “science is on the pro-life side”. [39] In her video called “The TRUTH About Abortion & Sex” [40] she is very critical of pro-abortion activism.

Allegations of Racism[]

In a video entitled “People of Color: You Are Not Oppressed”, Chen claims that people of color are not oppressed because on paper they have equal rights and because those students in particular study liberal arts in university, ignoring history and how it has lasting effects. Her video contained numerous logical fallacies which were noticed by many of her critics. In that video she ignores the effects of The War on Drugs, a policy that started in the Nixon administration and was used to target minorities. [41]

She has claimed that “black people are more likely to commit crimes than other races”, citing Fox News and website Downtrend.

I'm not going to hold up the United States as an example of successful integrated multiracial society because obviously that's not true. We still have African Americans, black people who have been here for like hundreds of hundreds of years in terms of their lineage, who are still not fully integrated. We see this.

Views on LGBTQ+[]

Chen approaches trans issues from the viewpoint of transmedicalism, believes human brains are inherently gendered, and that there are only two genders. [42] [43] She cited the work of highly controversial psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa, whose work has been heavily criticized and accused of being pseudoscientific. She does not believe in non-binary gender identities and has mocked non-binary singer Sam Smith’s gender identity. [44] She has even called non-binary people 'transtrenders'.[45]

She has claimed that more people identify as LGBT now than ever before [46] and that there are environmental and genetic effects. She also believes that LGBT acceptance has gone down. [47]

Don't get me wrong. I do also believe tons of pride parades, LGBT activism are degenerate.

―Lauren Chen[48]
