Maruyama or Yamachan (formerly known as Lu, SoundGasm and h0peful lucille), is a former Canadian YouTuber, artist and animator who gained infamy after she was outed as a child groomer. She has gone by a number of names such as Sam and Max in the past, but considers them deadnames and would rather be called Lucille. At an unknown date, they changed their channel name to H0peful Lucille.

Content[]

Lucille draws, animates and makes art. She bases her persona and character stills on Nagito Komeda from Danganronpa.

Her most popular animatic is one of Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugou from My Hero Academia. She ships them together. She would later go on to create a fancomic of My Hero Academia.

She has a second channel, V3rsatile H0pe, where she uploads similar videos. Likes are allowed there, and there are tons of dislikes on her videos. Comments are disabled though. However, around March 2021, she began re-abling likes and dislikes, starting with a video where she announced her Patreon, as well as uploading Minecraft videos.

Controversy[]

Grooming Allegations[]

Background[]

Maruyama was a Canadian animation youtuber. At 20, Lucille met Streamline Workshop through a mutual friend, who was 15 at the time. Streamline Workshop was the one who initiated romantic behaviour. Streamline Workshop only came to know Lucille's age two weeks after they had met.

Though they had never dated, Streamline Workshop would allege that they had took a role very similar to that of a couple and agreed to date when Streamline Workshop became the age of consent in Alberta, Canada. The relationship between Lucille and Streamline Workshop[1]. Streamline Workshop had eventually stated that she had wanted to focus on herself and subsequently ended their relationship. Lucille would create a game, where players would liken the character, after allegations, to Streamline Workshop; despite the fact that her character, like her, is an adult and at the time Streamline Workshop was a minor.

A couple years later, Streamline Workshop came to believe that her relationship with Lucille had been one of grooming and posted a video to talk of her experiences[2]. Youtubers such as Nawnii and Prison Mate Luke had made videos on Lucille after Streamline Workshop's video, supporting Streamline Workshop and spreading warnings about Lucille pedophilic behaviours[3][4].

Lucille's response to allegations[]

In Lucille's response video, which has since been deleted, she had introduced her new persona, one that was based on Nagito Komeda from Danganronpa. This response levied multiple accusations against the minor, Streamline Workshop- some of which have now been defunct, and provided refutations towards some of Streamline Workshop's points. The facts within this response are disputed.

Some of Lucille's Response:

  • Lucille denied the allegations and had refuted these by called Streamline Workshop, a Teleiophile, a minor who is sexually attracted to adults. [5][6]
  • Lucille had mentioned that they had never dated, which is true.[7]
  • Lucille claimed that "therapy isn't magic".
  • She also said that the Discord DMs did not stem from her as the account had been deleted, thus showing that there was no way of proving it was her, some have labeled this contradictory. Streamline Workshop then posted a google doc that showcased all the alleged interactions between her and Lucille[8].

Streamline Workshop made a video[9] to deny the claims made in Hopeful Lucille's response, which other creators would go on to respond to positively. Lucille later disabled subscribers, old videos and only allowed comments that were biased towards her. Lucille made another response[10], disabling likes and dislikes and moderating her comment section.

After the fact[]

In March 2021, she began re-abling likes and dislikes, starting with a video where she announced her Patreon, as well as uploading Minecraft videos. She attempted to re-enter the V-tuber community by playing games such as Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion by Akuma Kira, where in response, many animation and drama YouTubers warned followers about the allegations. Hopeful Lucille's Youtube account is believed to be deleted. Hopeful Lucille would later discuss parts of their journey after receiving mental health treatment in posts on online web-boards.

Alleged DMs[]

Present day[]

Lucille posted a video titled "Indefinite Hiatus" in May of 2021[11], detailing how she was going to leave the internet as recommended by her therapist. However, from September 2021 - January 2022, Lucille was found on the anonymous imageboard 4chan, changing her name to Maruyama[12]. Hopeful Lucille provided a Patreon link which had an open URL to one of her unlisted streams on the Lu channel.

After being discovered to be Lucille on the website from January 23rd 2022, Maruyama had completely stopped making threads on 4chan.

Lucille has kept a minimal online presence on Discord while working on False Host (her My Hero Academia fancomic) with occasional streams on Twitch. She had also changed her persona thrice since her hiatus announced on the Lu channel. Lucille would go on to eventually halt most work relating to the webcomic and has since stopped streaming on Twitch.

There has since been a commented post by Streamline Workshop in the Youtube Fandom Wiki, where Streamline congratulated users for "tracking her down" and "keeping track of what she is doing".

Major Mari, Lu's Echo[]

An impersonator, Major Mari, responded as Lucille in an attempt to be her white knight - the message including an appreciative note to wiki users attempting to document what goes on with her online, but claims that what Streamline Workshop is encouraging is stalking.

Mari is obsessed with Lucille to an unhealthy degree, claiming to be an "understudy" of and refers to Lucille as her "waifu". The two are in no relation to eachother, and Mari has publicly announced Lucille not wanting to be around or associated with them due to their obsessive behavior.

Trivia[]

  • She used to think she was transgender.
  • Hopeful Lucille has a younger sister who would regularly enter during their streams.
