Kirklin “Mack” Hopkins[1][2] (birthday: March 8, 2000 [age 24])[3][4] is an American[5] YouTuber and video editor. Alongside his own personal channel amassing nearly 400,000 subscribers since its creation on November 27th, 2012,[6] Mack has become most prominently known for his appearances in both Airrack videos and MrBeast challenges, the latter of which he is a current crew member for and makes consistent on-camera appearances.[7][8]

Outside of others' channels, Mack's personal channel has accumulated over 4,000,000 video views, though has not seen activity in over a year as of June 2024. Mack has also become known for his work as an editor and video producer for various other YouTubers.[citation needed]

History[]

Early History (2000-2019)[]

Mack is from Charlotte, North Carolina of the United States.[5] He has a brother.[9] Mack’s Alma Maters include Providence High School and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.[10]

Mack also studied in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2018, during his high school senior years, Mack and his high school classmate won first place in a video editing competition titled the Toyota TeenDrive365 Video Challenge where they create an advertisement video for Toyota’s national driver safety public service announcement.[1][2][11]

Mack was a member of various swimming teams in his native hometown like New South Swimming and Team Charlotte Swimming, and graduated in the class of 2018.[12] Mack has been constantly ranked amongst the top 10 in swimming competitions.[13]

Prior to his YouTube career, Mack is a notable athlete, being mentioned as an Olympian level swimmer in various MrBeast challenges.[14] Mack would also reveal that he had a love for cinematography and video production whilst growing up.[15]

Mack (2023)[]

Mack created his Youtube channel on November 27th, 2012 at the age of just 12 years old. However, it wouldn't be until April 26th, 2023 when Mack would upload his first video titled, "THE START.", in which he expressed his desire to create compelling and high-quality stories to an audience.[16] Mack would also receive notable acclaim from MrBeast, who would directly promote his channel in a twitter post. In a now deleted tweet, MrBeast would cite Mack as "the next big creator", giving credit to his editing and story telling being, "...on a different planet".[17]

Despite attempting to commit to a two-week upload schedule, with his second upload titled, "Surviving 100 Hours Controlled By Ai", being posted on April 29th, 2023, Mack would abruptly leave his YouTube channel in order to pursue work outside his personal channel for the time being.[18]

Nonetheless, both videos would receive positive success, contributing to Mack's channel accumulating over 4,000,000 total video views.[19]

Associated Works[]

Airrack (2019-2023)[]

In August 2019, Mack would join the channel of fellow youtuber, Airrack, as an editor. However, Mack would also make cameos in such Airrack videos, leading him to be considered as the "second member" to join the Airrack crew.[20]

Throughout the years, Mack would continue to make appearances on the channel all whilst maintaining a prominent position behind the scenes on the Airrack channel. His work in such Airrack videos would result in a win at the 12th Annual Streamy Awards on December 4th, 2022.[21] The Airrack channel would win Best First Person alongside a nomination for Best Editing.[22]

Mack's final appearance on the Airrack channel would be on April 29th, 2023 with the video, "Ai Girl Speed Dates 10 Youtubers", the same day that he would make his final upload on his personal Youtube channel. In it, he states that he had recently gone through a break-up in a public relationship with his ex-girlfriend. Such an event occurring around the same time that Mack would take a break from Youtube led many to believe that his break-up was the cause of Mack's absence.[23]

MrBeast (2021-Present)[]

Mack would make his first appearance in a MrBeast video on August 31st, 2021 with the competition, "Last To Leave Circle Wins $500,000", in which he was the first of one-hundred people to be eliminated, and as such become the recipient of a new car.[24]

On October 7th, 2023, MrBeast would upload a video titled, "World's Most Dangerous Trap!", which would showcase Mack's second MrBeast cameo. Unlike his 2021 appearance, Mack would be the sole competitor and main protagonist of the challenge, which would involve Mack completing a variety of physical tasks, each accumulating $100,000 upon completion, all building towards a grand prize of $1,000,000. However, Mack would lose on the 8th challenge, in which he was tasked with perfectly cutting out the four dalgona cookies from the hit TV series, Squid Game, in consecutive order under a limited time frame.[25] Mack's loss of $800,000 would be met with much popularity, as it was typically uncommon for MrBeast to showcase contestants losing in challenges at the time, and would ultimately grow Mack's character and notoriety.[citation needed]

With such popularity, Mack would recieve a second opportunity from MrBeast, appearing in the video, "Face Your Biggest Fear To Win $800,000", uploaded on February 10th, 2024.[26] Similarly, Mack would complete a series of "fear-related" challenges to win the earnings he lost in the previous video. Mack would once again fail to the dalgona cookies in the same exact task that eliminated him from the previous video, resulting in Mack losing a total of $1,500,000 from both challenges.[27]

The success of the two videos would not only land Mack a spot on the MrBeast crew in a variety of different videos, but would also grant Mack a third opportunity to win the $800,000 he initially lost.[28] On June 15th, 2024, MrBeast would upload, "World's Deadliest Obstacle Course!", in which Mack would undergo a series of six different consecutive obstacles courses to win his previously lost earnings. Mack would ultimately complete all six obstacle courses and finally win a MrBeast challenge.[29] As of June 18th, 2024, the three videos detailing Mack's struggles and growth as a main competitor have amassed over 550,000,000 views, cementing Mack as a fan-favorite among MrBeast videos.[30]
