Mahmoud Alessandro (born: September 12, 1992 (1992-09-12) [age 27]), known professionally as Mahmood, is an Italian singer, best known for representing Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv with his song Soldi. Mahmood came second after being beaten by Duncan Laurance representing The Netherlands.

Early Life

Mahmood was born in Milan, Italy to a Sardinian mother and an Egyptian Father, he was raised in Gratosoglio. When he was five his parents divorced after which he was raised by his mother.

In 2012 Mahmood appeared on the sixth season of the Italian version of X Factor where he became part of the boys category and was mentored by Simona Ventura, an Italian actress. He was eliminated at Judges House but came back as a wildcard before he was eliminated again in the 3rd episode. After his audition he started to play at bars and attended music lessons where he started to write songs. He released his debut single Fallin' Rain, in 2013. 3 years later Mahmood partcipated in the Sanremo Music Festival with his song Dimentica. A year later he released his single Pesos with which he used to partcipate in the 5th edition of the Wind Summer Festival and won the third episode of the youth selection.

In December of 2018 Mahmood was one of the 24 acts to appear on Sanremo Giovani, a competition that was to be televised. Mahmood was put first in the second episode with his song Gioventù Bruciata. He later performed his song Soldi at the Sanremo Music Festival 2019, it was the first time the song was being perforemd and boosted his song to 7th in the televoting and also landed Mahmood in the top 3 and his song was declared the winner of the Sanremo Music Festival 2019. He was awarded the Enzo Jannaacci award for the best performance and also recieved the Premio Baglioni D'oro award for the best vited song. 2 months later he released his debut studio album Gioventù Bruciata containing songs like Soldi and Gioventù Bruciata. In May 2019 he performed Soldi in Tel Aviv while representing Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 and came second.
