Joe Schmid,[2] (born: August 2000 [age 21])[3], better known online as Majesty of Reason, is a YouTuber who discusses critical thinking and philosophy.
Personal life[]
Joe is the youngest of four siblings. He grew up as a Catholic,[4] and attended Catholic schools as a child, which made him interested in theology.[5] Joe’s interest in biology stemmed from a fascination with evolution,[6] which led him to question his religious faith, due to the suffering involved.[7] He suffers from anxiety.[8]
Philosophy[]
Joe is an agnostic.[9] He has always loved debating,[10] and studies at Purdue University, where he is majoring in philosophy and minoring in biology.[11] Joe’s favourite theistic philosophers are Josh Rasmussen, Alexander Pruss, and R.T. Mullins.[12] He decided to specialise in the philosophy of religion because of its importance, and overlap with other philosophical disciplines.[13]

The name Majesty of Reason comes from a quote by the philosopher Baruch Spinoza.[14]
Joe uploads debates and discussions with various thinkers.[15] He also makes videos about philosophy books, with a short video for each chapter,[16] and papers about various philosophical disciplines.[17] Joe has a series summarising definitions from the Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy (SEP) and the Internet Encyclopaedia of Philosophy (IEP).[18] He discusses a variety of philosophical arguments,[19] and has a series of videos discussing the logical fallacy of Begging The Question.[20]
His channel was designed by Esteban Bonilla, also known as Guarded Acumen.[21][22]

Joe wrote a book titled The Majesty of Reason: A Short Guide to Critical Thinking in Philosophy. It was published in 2020, and is available in both print and as an e-book.[24] A Guide to Critical Thinking in Philosophy is a YouTube series about the book, which summarises each chapter.[25]
