Maximilian Arthur "Max" Fosh[1][2] (born: April 3, 1995),[3] formerly known online as StreetSmart,[4][5] is an English comedy YouTuber and former radio presenter.[6] His channel was originally dedicated to a web series in which he interviews university students and pedestrians, but he has since rebranded as he branched out towards other series and content.[4]
Personal life[]
He is from London. He attended Harrow School before going on to study at Newcastle University in 2014.[7] He graduated from Newcastle University with a Bachelor's Degree.[8]
His father is Matthew Fosh[9] (born: September 26, 1957).[10] His mother is Helena Wilhelmina van der Kun[11] (born: December 14, 1955).[12] His older sister is Talitha "Tally" Fosh[13][14] (born: August 22, 1992).[15] His parents are divorced.
Max has played football with Prince William and Prince Harry.[16]
Career[]
Before starting his YouTube channel, Max worked on a hospital radio station called Radio Tyneside.[6] During his time at the radio station, he won the 'Best Newcomer Award' at the 2016 National Hospital Radio Awards,[17][18] and was also shortlisted for 'Best Male Presenter' at the 2018 National Hospital Radio Awards.[19]
He started uploading to his YouTube channel in October of his final year at Newcastle University, 2017,[20][21][22] uploading the first episode of his StreetSmart series.[23] StreetSmart was an interview series.[22] Max got the idea as he was still doing radio at the time, and was interested in presenting and wanted to get into TV and video.[24] There was a series called 'Bigg Market Banter' run by Newcastle University, in which they spoke to to people on nights outs.[25][26] Max applied to be a presenter on this show, but was denied as they already had presenters.[27] Max decided that there was nothing stopping him from doing something similar. He didn't have experience in how to edit or make videos, but, on Freshers' Week (student orientation week) of 2017, he decided to post a video on all of the 5 days, and, from there, the series grew.[28] As well as YouTube, the videos were also uploaded to Facebook.[29] People thought the videos were funny, and asked if Max was going to make more, so he kept making them, and didn't stop until he left university.[30]
He has since branched out to different videos, such as getting a friend to hire a private investigator to follow him for a month,[31] catching and eating fish from the River Thames,[32][33] and incorporating a private limited company (called Unlimited Money Limited)[34][35] in order to create 10 billion shares[36] and sell 1 of those shares for £50,[37] leading him to technically be able to value his company at £500 billion.[38] He also snuck into the International Security Expo with a pass for a fictional person "Rob Banks" with the fictional occupation "International Baddie",[39][40][41] as well as purchasing his own airline[42] and roundabout.[43][44][45][21][46]
In 2019, Zac Alsop released a video about how he and Jay snuck Max into Fashion Week.[47][48] They bought Primark clothing as well as a few other items, and dressed Fosh up. They wrapped fragile packing tape around him, and stuck letters from this fragile packing tape to a bag spelling the words "Emotional Baggage", as well as dressing him up in his mother's rug, and putting inflatable, plastic packaging around his neck.[47] They named him "Maximus Bucharest, from Bucharest", and followed him around the streets of London, filming and taking picture of him.[47] He ended up getting a lot of attention, with photos being taken and posted by members of the public, being able to get onto an actual show,[47] and being used as an advertisement for a concrete business.[49]
In April 2020, Max released a video titled 'Do You Know This Stock Photo Model? | Ep. 1', in which he explained the story of a frame he received in 2018 as a housewarming gift when he moved into his new flat.[50] The frame contained a stock photo of a women, who Max nicknamed 'Sarah'. Out of laziness, Max never got around to changing the photo that was enclosed in the frame. During the first United Kingdom lockdown, Max decided that would would do research in order to find out who this women was. He first searched for the image online using a reverse image search, which brought him no results. He then tried to simply search on Google for a description of the image, but, again, he wasn't able to find what he was looking for. He attempted to call the marketing department for the company who made the frame, Kenro. He didn't find too much information, but was able to find that the latest the image could have been taken was 2007. He then asked on Instagram, and his followers managed to find a few leads. Max did more research, releasing 2 more videos, as well as appearing on Australian television.[51] After 2 videos on the subject, he managed to find the women, and released the third and final video documenting everything and stating who she was.[52]
In July 2020, Max released a video where he gets his parents to sign a contract where they must legally refer to him as "Max - The Favourite Sibling/Child".[53][54]
In March 2021, Max announced his candidacy for the 2021 London Mayoral Election (more info below), for a YouTube series in which he attempts to take on fellow Harrow alumnus Laurence Fox.[55]
From 1 October to 16 November 2021, Max went on a nationwide tour, performing his stand-up comedy show, Zocial Butterfly,[56][57] ending the tour at the Clapham Grand.[58]
In December 2021, Max released a video titled "I Paid A Private Investigator To Follow Me For A Month", in which one of his friends hired a private investigator to follow Max around for a month. The PI took many pictures of Max, and ended up finding quite a bit of information about him. The PI found Max's full name,[59] that he has no criminal record,[60] his address,[61] his parents' names,[62] that he is in a choir called 'The Adam Street Singers',[63] that he can play football (soccer),[64] places he has met up with friends,[65] that he had a meeting with an agent,[66] he often wears a blue cap,[67] his home Wi-Fi password,[68] and his Instagram password.[69]
In February 2022, Max claimed to have been the richest man in the world for 7 minutes.[70][71][72] This was due to him creating and registering a private limited company, called Unlimited Money Limited,[73][74] creating 10 billion shares,[75] and selling 1 share for £50.[76] This lead to Max technically being able to value his company at £500 billion.[77]
In May 2022, Max released a video titled "I Became A Member Of The Royal Family For 43 Minutes", in which he marries a descendant of James II. This allowed him to be able claim he's a member of the United Kingdom Royal Family.[78]
Also in May 2022, Max got one of the founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley, to subscribe to his YouTube channel. Max offered 2 Coke cans signed by Damien Hirst for a handshake and a subscription to his YouTube channel from Chad.[79]
Max got married legally to Sylvie in St Paul's cathedral grounds and got divorced 3 minutes later in March 2023.[80]
2021 London mayoral election[]
In March 2021, Fosh announced his candidacy for the 2021 London Mayoral Election.[55][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89] This lead to the start of a YouTube series[90] in which Fosh attempts to take on actor, political activist, and fellow Old Harrovian, Laurence Fox.[91][92][93][81]
Neither Fosh nor Fox won the election. It was won by Sadiq Khan.[94] Fox received 47,634 votes,[95][96] Fosh only received 6309.[97][98]
