Controversies[]

Tory Lanez allegations[]

On August 20, 2020, Megan accused Tory Lanez of shooting her, stating that he fired at her feet as she walked away from the SUV they had been riding in July 2020. She also claimed in 2022, that Tory offered her and her friend, Kelsey Harris, $1 million each to keep quiet about the shooting.[1] In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of three felony counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, illegal possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on August 8, 2023.[2]

In May 2025, Tory Lanez's legal team released a "new" collection of audio and video evidence related to the shooting. The alleged evidence was published on a website called 36hourslater.com, included bodycam footage and testimonies from Sean Kelly, a neighbor who was a witness, Lanez's bodyguard, JauQuan Smith and Harris’s bodyguard, Bradlie James. The main evidence, which was bodycam footage of Megan telling the police officers she had "stepped on glass" and was not shot, however Megan claimed that she lied to the officer saying she "stepped on glass" only to avoid escalation of the situation. The "new" evidence that Tory's legal team presented in 2025 was in actuality released back in December 2022.[3]
