Arun Rupesh Maini[2] (born: October 24, 1995 ),[3][4] better known online as Mrwhosetheboss, is an English technology YouTuber.
Early life[]
He was born in England on October 24, 1995. Not much is known about his childhood, other than that he got really good grades all throughout school and he played chess. He also went to a regular English school during weekdays and to Hindi school during the weekends. Throughout his teen years, he was picked on and had really low self-esteem, to the point where he would go everywhere with his head down, until one day, his uncle put his head up and told him to stay that way. Eventually, he got his first phone, and was amazed at how much he could do with it.
Channel and personal life[]
Maini attended the University of Warwick from 2010 to 2017, graduating with a degree in economics.[5][6]
He joined YouTube on April 20, 2011, and the channel has gone through significant changes since then.
Maini currently resides in London, England.[2][3]
Arun is of Indian descent.[7][8]
He married his long-time partner Dhrisha in 2024.
Milo is Arun's cat who often appears in his videos. Since he is ginger and white, he is most likely a tabby cat. He likes biting Arun.
History[]
Maini originally started uploading gaming content to YouTube. When he was 14 years old, his brother gave him his first smartphone, a ZTE Blade. Maini decided to make a video about it; "a lot of people watched it, and the video did much better than I expected". From there, he turned his attention to creating smartphone videos, which ultimately lead to the trajectory of his channel. Maini wanted to start his career doing only expensive phone reviews. He was inspired by many other technology YouTubers. However, all of them would attend particular private events and seminars and he wanted to, too. But at the same time, making phone reviews was getting him to a loss as he did not have proper back-end finance at that time. As a result, he had only two choices- directly buy and sell phones or quit the channel. But Arun did not quit; he continued making review videos until he got a decent amount of viewers and subscribers, after which, he became settled.

Running gags[]
Rickrolling[]
Arun is known to include multiple Never Gonna Give You Up references in nearly all of his videos in an attempt to rickroll his viewers. These range from putting images of Rick Astley edited into the video or on the products he is reviewing, playing small samples of the song, to having a life-sized cardboard cutout of Astley.
Passionfruit[]
Passionfruit is a fictional “phone” company and recurring running gag in Mrwhosetheboss’ videos. It first appeared in “If smartphone commercials were honest” and has since become a running gag in Arun’s videos.
Passionfruit is a satirical stereotype of a phone company, as the CEO quickly runs out of ideas for his phones. One example is how he originally intended to name the i-Phoney 24 Max Pro Plus 5G Fold the “i-Phone” but quickly kept adding stuff on randomly, so as not to be sued by Apple. They also have no customer perspective, as they add horrible stuff like there being no display at all for “Digital Wellbeing”.
In its first appearance (If smartphone commercials were honest), Passionfruit launched the i-Phoney 24 Max Pro Plus 5G, an Android smartphone with six 2-megapixel macro cameras which take six identical photos at once, no display (for “Digital Wellbeing”), etc. The phone won “Worst Named Product 2020” and several bad reviews, which the CEO said “not to check”. The CEO said that they had ran out of things to do on the front of the phone, so they added 3 “beautiful” finishes to it, made out of plastic; Solar Eclipse, Lunar Solstice, Ashen Volcano, and the CEO’s personal favourite: black.
I-Phoney 24 Max Pro Plus 5G Fold[]
The I-Phoney 24 Max Pro Plus 5G Fold is a fictional smartphone sold by Passionfruit and another running gag (alongside the company itself) in Arun’s videos. It first appeared in “If smartphone commercials were honest” when the CEO launched it.
In the same video, the CEO talked about how Google Pixel phones can take very good photos with just one camera, and he said “we’re not Google”, so he announced that they had put 6 cameras on the phone. He said that since Passionfruit loved 2-megapixel macro cameras (one of the worst smartphone cameras), they put two of them, until he said that it was a lie and there were actually four macro cameras but there were still two main sensors, until he said that actually all of them were 2-megapixel macro cameras.
The phone, alongside Passionfruit (the fictional company who made the phone), has become a running gag in Arun’s videos.
Passionfruit has also released a few other phones, You, Me and We, and soon coming will be He, She and It.
The phone has horrible features, and is probably intended to mock how people make horrible smartphones.
You, Me and We[]
You is an terrible fictional phone, powered by "Qualcon Napdragon" and "Exyn**" processors. It was later mentioned that the phone justs works...but doesn't work.[21]
Me is another terrible smartphone, arriving in a "Plus sized" McDonald's bag from the garbage can outside the office, with a selling point being a slim chance of coupons in the bag. The phone is signed by "celebrities" such as "Juicetin Bieber" and "Leonardo de Caprisun", which were actually signatures wrote on five minutes ago. Another selling point is AI (abysmal intelligence), later talking about how the phone folds...once.[21]
We is an abysmal device, emphasised by the fact that a McDonald's bag is described as a "royal unbagging experience". This phone is riddled with problems, for example, it has terrible battery life and doesn't fit in pockets, nor does it actually turn on. The phone has 10 cameras, ranging from Wide to Zoom and Widezoom, however it's likely the cameras are all fake or macros. The phone was met with critical reception unsurprisingly, with reviews such as "This is getting stupid now"[21]
He, She and It are the upcoming smartphone ranges, with the full size model being named "S**t"[21]
All three of these phones were mentioned in "If smartphone commercials were extremely honest"[21]
Quotes[]
