NBC Sports is an American programming division of NBC responsible for broadcasting sports on the network. Notable broadcasts, such as the Olympics, are usually broadcast onto the division. It was launched on May 17, 1939.

NBC Sports was first launched in 1939, when television station W2XBS (now WNBC-TV) televised a university baseball game as well as a boxing match between boxers Max Baer and Lou Nova. When WWII ended, sporting events were a staple to NBC at the time, then televising an Army-Navy game in 1945. Starting in 1950, NBC Sports became the exclusive broadcaster of the World Series. CBS would sometimes take away sports from NBC that CBS would eventually broadcast themselves.
