Mumei Nanashi (七詩・ムメイ) (birthday: August 4) was a VTuber who was associated with Hololive EN's second generation, HoloCouncil.[1] She debuted with four other VTubers, Sana Tsukomo, Kronii Ouro, Fauna Ceres and Baelz Hakos.
Content[]
Mumei debuted on August 23, 2021, being the fourth one of her generation to debut, after Sana, Fauna and Kronii. In her debut stream she revealed that she liked obtaining knowledge, vegetable broth, drawing stuff, and singing and disliked forgetting things, mud, printers, and mosquitoes.[2]
When it came to discussing media she liked, she said her favorite anime were Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Steins;Gate, Hunter x Hunter, Bokurano, and Made in Abyss, and her favorite manga were Tokyo Ghoul, To Your Eternity, and Promised Neverland.[3] Her favorite music genres are folk, pop, punk, J-Pop and Vocaloid, and her favorite games were simulators (especially Rollercoaster Tycoon 2), world building games, and rhythm games.[4] Mumei also stated her goals were to have a song appear in a rhythm game, learn Japanese (again), collab with senpais, improve and learn new skills, write a song on guitar, and perform a 3D live.[5]
The first game she ever streamed was Journey, and the second was Construction Simulator (which became a point of humor for many fans as Mumei, despite being the living embodiment of "civilization" according to her own lore, showed herself to be very incompetent at building).[6][7] She has also played Devour, Slither.io, Dead by Daylight, Minecraft, Rimworld, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Human: Fall Flat, Pokemon: Shining Pearl, Blue Archive, A Way Out, Passpartout, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Her Name Was Fire, Jump King, Vampire Survivors, Fortnite, Getting Over It, Gundam Evolution and Animal Crossing: New Horizons on stream. She has even played fan games like Mumei no Toshi and HoloCure.
When gaming Mumei has a tendency to lack a sense of direction, have bad luck and forget things, though she has specific moments where she pretends to be stupid to fool others. Despite her shy and pacifistic nature, if she feels cornered or taken advantage of, she will resort to sociopathic behavior, death threats, firmness and cruelty. She also isn't above going on killing sprees, as her Dead by Daylight streams have shown.
She also hosts watchalongs, her first being of Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. She has covered the song Dilemma - DECO*27[8].
She has also streamed herself learning Japanese and Korean through Duolingo, uploads ASMR streams, made filler episodes and reviewed whatever interests her.
Mumei draws hololive[]
As the name suggests, Mumei draws hololive are streams where Mumei draws her fellow hololive talents. While her first drawing stream of drawing her fellow Holobirds (Kiara, Reine and Subaru) was relatively innocent, in her later art streams she became known for the disturbing nature of her artwork, often depicting her fellow idols as eldritch beings.[9] Mumei's artworks are have received a reputation of being "cursed" and Koyori and Roboco have commented in how uncanny they look.[10] Others such as Kiara, while calling them shocking, have also expressed surprise as to how Mumei manages to create extremely detailed nightmarish drawings with simple tools like a mouse and no brushes.[11]
Collaborations[]
Being from Hololive's second EN generation, her first participation in a competition was the HoloEN Among Us tournament. Her movie watchalong of Scary Movie featured IRyS. She streams a lot of horror movies and in general is unfazed by them. Mumei, Reine, Ollie, Sana, Calliope and IRyS also competed in the EN x ID Pokemon Holo Throw Down; Sana won[12]. Her stream of Overwatch featured Kronii, Ina'nis, Gura, IRyS and Amelia[13].
Mumei has mentioned that Ina'nis Ninomae was the Hololive talent who she watched the most and when they finally met in real life, Mumei was awkward around her[14]. However it was Korone Inugami was the one who introduced her to the company and her oshi. She also thinks Botan is one of the coolest hololive members[15].
Many others nickname her MeiMei, Calli calls her kyawatori, and Baelz calls her Mumei-shi.
In her Minecraft streams, she accidentally was killed by Gura's stray arrows, and because of this, has a reaction reminiscent to that of PTSD whenever she's around Gura. In the game, due to being homeless, she resides in Kronii's bunker. She also has some odd fixation on berries in the game; why she does is never specified. Mumei, Gura, Fauna and Kronii also played Phasmophobia together. A running gag is Kronii and Fauna arguing over her romantic affections, though Mumei seems to favor the KroMei ship, as she dragged Kronii into Reine's room in order to recreate a Reine x reader fanfic with her, with IRyS as the narrator.[16] Kronii and Mumei have played We Were Here Foreverr and Devour. They also held a stream where they read fanfiction of themselves[17]. On October 10, 2021, Kronii and Mumei held an off-collab together.[18]
In her first Apex Legends collaboration, she managed to have the highest kill count, despite her collab partners being a veteran player and the embodiment of chaos.
Baelz and Mumei have reviewed food together[19]. They have also played A Way Out and Minecraft (the latter also featuring Haato)[20][21]. Their first duet song cover together was of Animal - DECO*27.[22] Baelz has called Mumei her best friend.[23] When Baelz mentioned she had befriended a Minecraft villager named Mason, Mumei felt so jealous she wanted to kill him.[24][25] They also reviewed letters to Santa Claus together.[26] Fauna, Mumei and Baelz celebrated New Year's Eve 2023 together, getting very drunk.[27] In their next stream, they held a karaoke stream together. The three had gone to Japan shortly before the start of 2023.
Mumei and Kiara are close as well. When Kiara covered Vampire - DECO*27, Mumei commented "I am good at making blood, you can have some!". She also taught Kiara swear words in a Minecraft stream. Mumei was part of Mario Party Superstars collab with her, Ame and Gura.[28] On February 23, 2022, Kiara, Mumei, and the rest of the Holobirds held a Garctic Phone collab[29].
In games, she tends to be fawned over by her genmates, particularly all of HoloCouncil.
Her drawing streams have featured Iofi[30].
On April 18, 2022, Mumei was interviewed by Crunchyroll[31]. In a later interview, she would reveal her top 10 anime (in no order) to be Steins; Gate, Guren Lagann, Hunter x Hunter, Bokurano, Clannad: After Story, Neon Genesis Evangelion,Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Attack on Titan, Eden of the East and Soul Eater[32].
With the debut of Hololive Indonesia's third generation, Kronii and Mumei streamed Party Panic with newcomers Zeta and Kaela[33].
Her first collaboration with a Nijisanji talent was when her and Amelia played Overwatch 2 with Selen.[34] Later Mumei revealed that her and Selen knew each other before they became VTubers.[35]

Design[]
Mumei's character illustrator is あずーる and her modeler is rariemonn765. She shares her illustrator with Kuyuri Hanagumo. She mentioned during her Journey stream that her physical appearance is similar to that of a barn owl's.[46]
Sana illustrated her BEEG SMOL model, which was rigged by SeafoamBoi[47].
Mumei is 156cm (5'1) tall.
There are several ancient alphabet systems that can be found in her design:
- Her cape has Egyptian hieroglyphs lined on it, which spell out the seven deadly sins in Latin.
- Her hair clip contains the symbol "ᚱ", the Norse rune equivalent to the modern English letter "R", which in historic rune poems means "ride" or "journey".
- Her paper-bag friend has the Norse runes, "ᚠᚱᛁᛖᚾᛞ", spelling "FRIEND" enscripted on the bottom left of its face. They appear to be in either the Elder Futhark alphabet, used primarily in pre-Christian Scandinavia between the 2nd and 8th centuries, or the similar Anglo-Saxon Furthorc alphabet, which continued to be used in what is now Britain until the 11th century. Mumei has stated that her paper bag friend has no name because she is afraid she might forget his name and that she simply refers to it as "my friend", because she will never forget that he is her friend.
- The Norse runes: ᛒ, ᛟ, and ᛉ, which represent the letters B, O, and X or Z (X in the Anglo-Saxon Furthorc, Z in the Norse Elder Futhark), are also shown to be on three orbs surrounding the paper bag.

A member of the Council and the Guardian of "Civilization," a concept crafted by mankind.
As a living embodiment of the sum of mankind's efforts—the mark that humans have left on the world—she is far removed from her fellow members, as well as other lifeforms. Due to not being created by the Gods, she was free to choose her own appearance, and decided to make herself owl-like, after the bird that symbolizes wisdom.
She is gentle, wise, and an unbelievably hard worker. As a well-traveled vagabond, she is blessed with a wealth of knowledge of the world. She has seen, heard, and experienced so many things that she has forgotten most of them, one of them being her own name.
For some reason, she seems to project a rather pitiable aura. Perhaps this is in part thanks to the loneliness she has often felt in her perennial travels. That is what gave her the idea of making her own friend out of a material that was indispensable to the development of human civilization: paper.

Her fans are known as "Hoomans". She has stated that she is fine with Hoomans using her artwork for personal uses like profile avatars.

In-jokes/memes[]
- After her debut video, fans wanted her to play the game Civilization since she is the guardian of Civilization. However hololive's management has yet to give her the thumbs-up to stream it.
- Mumei is often associated with the "I forgor 💀" meme due to her forgetfulness. An example of this was when she was asked about how she felt about her clips, and she replied that she had no recollection of 60% of the content.[66]
- Calling Mumei a kiwi. However she doesn't mind being called one because she thinks they are cute.[67]
- She has stated that she does not want to be superchatted (as she can afford in-game purchases herself), which caused a spike in superchat donations, and Mumei had to ban them. This would come up again during her karaoke streams, where fans would jokingly refer to superchatting as buying tickets, which irritated Mumei since those streams are free entertainment. This hasn't stopped Hoomans, with fanart often depicting her mascot as a ticket scalper.[68]
- A channel dedicated to clipping Mumei, MeiMei clips, used an outro of Mumei doing Rikka's finger spin, while using a mashup of Macross Delta song "Rune Ga Pikatto Hikattara" and September - Earth, Wind & Fire. This led to clones that replace Rikka with (insert Hololive talent here).[69]
- Many Hoomans think Mumei's default face resembles the :D emoticon. Chat types it whenever Mumei does something cursed due to its blank and vacant stare.[70]
