“ | That's one minute, see you tomorrow! | ” |
―Nas’s catchphrase |
Nuseir Yassin[2] (Arabic: نصير ياسين; Hebrew: נוסייר יאסין; born: February 9, 1992 ),[citation needed] better known online as Nas Daily (or simply Nas), is an Israeli-Palestinian YouTuber who uploads a wide variety of special travel videos, reviewing the unusual things found in many countries.
History and content[]
He launched his YouTube channel on September 30, 2011, and uploaded his first video on November 5, 2012.
His content primarily focuses on the unique stories of people and things all around the world, like the person who looks like Tarzan, or more famously, the guy who found a chemical solution that can clean the lake. He tends to upload (or at least post somewhere, like on Facebook) daily and his videos are usually around a minute long. On his second channel, Nas Daily Company, he explained why he makes them only a minute long. That also means that his videos don't contain too many mid-roll advertisements, and he also explained that his videos are usually not sponsored.
Yassin finished the 1000 daily video journey on January 5, 2019, ending the last video with the tagline: "That’s one minute, see you soon". On February 1, 2019, he started making one video per week, for a planned 100 weeks.
Rebranding[]
In a video, Yassin claimed that he would eventually be rebranding his channel from Nas Daily to "Nas Weekly," changing his schedule from daily to once a week. Although this schedule change has since taken place, Yassin's channel is still named Nas Daily. The tagline in this case is "...see you next week" instead of "tomorrow."
Personal life[]
Yassin was born in Arraba, Israel, to a Muslim-Arab family of Palestinian descent. He describes himself as Palestinian-Israeli.[1] He is the second of four children; his mother is a teacher and his father is a psychologist. His native language is Arabic; he also speaks English and non-fluent Hebrew.
Yassin applied to Harvard at the age of 19, seeking a degree in aerospace engineering, and received a scholarship. His application essay detailed his struggle to achieve his dreams being an Arab born in Israel. He graduated with a degree in economics in 2014 and also studied computer science. While earning his degree, Yassin co-founded a pay-it-forward registration service, and a social media search engine.
In September 2014, he started working as a software developer for Venmo, a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. He then left an engineering job at Venmo to chase his dream of making daily one-minute videos and posting them on Facebook. He's found success, gaining over 700K followers and 110M views on his videos.[3]
Yassin currently lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and has a video making company which spans on 2 countries (United Arab Emirates and Singapore). His memoir, Around the World in 60 Seconds: The Nas Daily Journey, was released on November 5, 2019.
Controversy[]
Racism accusations[]
While making a video about the Philippines, Nas partnered with a Filipino local, Louise De Guzman Mabulo. 2 years later, Louise made a Facebook post where she broke her silence and explained the mistreatment and racism she faced from Nas. According to her, Nas exploited many indigenous Filipino people, their culture and their customs, called Filipino people "poor" and refused to include videos of farmers as it wasn't profitable or clickable content. He also behaved ungratefully to her family for hosting him.[4] Her father, Fermin Mabulo also made a post explaining how exploitative Nas was.[5]
In 2023, Nas presented a contented portrayal of Indonesia's Bali province, calling it the "whitest island" in Asia. While discussing the prices in Bali, he claimed “everything here is affordable… to white tourists, at least.”[6]
Armenian alleged "misinformation" claims[]
After uploading a video titled "The Country of Coexistence"[7] about Azerbaijan on the 17th of September 2024 the Armenian community started raising their concerns about the accuracy of the information in the video. The video was included Nas talking about Azerbaijan which is a (if not the only) place where Jews co-exist with Muslim without any major conflicts. Azerbaijan also houses the only 100% Jewish village outside of Israel. Nas also stated that "the Azerbaijan government has a separate building dedicated for religious affairs for all religions".[8] Although Nas was trying to spread positive facts about the country, while doing so, he angered a great amount of his Armenian followers, who other members of Nas Daily's community have criticised as ungrateful.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at war with each other until as recently as 2023 and there does not seem to be a peace deal to this day (as of the 24th of September 2024).[9][10] The Azerbaijani government has also been destroying Armenian cultural heritage in it's borders in retaliation to Armenia destroying[11] all but one of the mosques in their country, vandalising their only synagogue and turning several towns of Azerbaijan into ghost towns (e.g. Fuzuli and Jabrayil), even turning mosques such as one in Aghdam into a pig-sty, alongside forcefully displacing 1 million Azerbaijanis from Nagorno-Karabakh and its surrounding regions.[12][13][14][15]
"If only you did some research, but that was probably not part of your contract with the government of Azerbaijan which pulverized a centuries-old Christian cemetery and replaced it with a shooting range."[16]
The Armenians also claimed that "The Country of Coexistence" cannot be a country which has "ethnicly cleansed and genocided 120,000 Armenians".[17]
Nas did try addressing the controversy and tweeted:
"i did research. this was not paid. and i made 100 positive videos about armenia. if ure gonna whine and complain about this video that has nothing to do with armenia, then its a you problem. im not here to be your political puppet."[18]
Which was not favoured by the Armenian community either. Stating: "We don't need your "positive" videos about Armenia."[19] and "Yah we will whine and complain about ethnic cleansing. Hope you don’t mind."[20]
Nas then replied with the Tweet:
"That’s it. I’m convinced of the following:
Feeling like a victim is the first step of any nation’s decline.
Be careful of victim mentality."[21]
