Cory Crater (born: January 22, 1995 (1995-01-22) [age 29]), better known online as NewScapePro, is an American YouTuber, producer, director and voice actor. He is the founder and chief executive officer of NewScape Studios inc. which specializes in YouTube content, including machinima, animation, gameplay and live action skits.

Early life[]

Cory was born in Massachusetts, United States, and began playing video games at a young age. As early as 2005, he started creating machinimas (a form of film-making that uses video games in its production) using Halo 2 and later, Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.

Career[]

Early work[]

Cory first began his career in 2007, when he signed on with the company Machinima to create Halo 3 videos. By 2009, he began creating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay commentaries for Machinima Respawn as well as traditional story-based videos for Machinima's main page.

In 2010, Cory began creating Minecraft series for Machinima Realm such as The Fugu Complex, Minecraft Horror Story and the Herobrine series. He continued to create content throughout high school, but after gears shifted in Machinima's platform, took a hiatus as he went to college in New Hampshire.

Sky Media[]

In 2015, Cory worked alongside SGCBarbierian and SkyDoesMinecraft in creating machinima cutscenes for The Crafting Dead roleplay series. Cory dropped out of university to work for Sky Media in Seattle, Washington. There, he worked on cut scenes for series such as Roommates, Maze Runner and Minecraft High School / University. Around this time, Cory started the Minecraft Fallout series.

Growing popularity[]

By 2016, Cory had left Sky Media to work on his own YouTube channel, NewScapePro, also known as NewScape Productions. During this time, he continued his work on Fallout, rebooted Minecraft Horror Story in roleplay form, and started his largest series at the time, Minecraft Undertale. NewScapePro grew large as the Undertale fandom brought the channel to new heights. This also marked the beginning of The Crew--when Ashlie9596ZresUnicomicsCheezyBreezi, FrozenGargon and later JonJon began making videos together.

In the following two years, Cory continued creating new series such as Yandere Rivals, Creepypasta and Minecraft SCP as well as played Minecraft minigames with the crew based on popular videogames such as Bendy and the Ink Machine, Five Nights at Freddy's and Undertale Alternate Universes. These AU's lead to Undertale spinoff machinima series such as Underfell and Timetale.

With plenty of content on the main channel, Cory also opened two additional channels, NewScapeDos and NewScapeGamesNewScapeDos was a Minecraft minigame channel where the crew would play Hypixel games such as bedwars and murder mystery. NewScapeGames was a gaming channel reserved for non-Minecraft videos like GMOD Murder Mystery, GTAV Deathrun, You Can't Kill a Meme and a vast variety of other mini-games.

During this time, NewScape Productions acquired it's first office space where Cory and Bri began doing productions in-house. It was then that Cory hired editor and eventual COO, Kaleb Sherretz and live action director, Joe Jowett as two of the companies first employees.

Minecraft drop off and demonetization[]

Around the Summer of 2018, views on Minecraft were at an all-time low and NewScape Productions was still feeling the monetary wake of demonetization and the Adpocalypse. With the NewScapePro channel based solely around Minecraft content at that time and large sums of revenue lost from all three channels, the team was met with an ultimatum to either shut down the channel or find other forms of content to create.

Fortnite changes[]

Since 2019, Fortnite was still rising in popularity, and NewScape Productions attempted to create machinimas on the new medium. As a last-ditch effort to keep the doors open, NewScape Productions deleted NewScapeDos and reformatted the channel into a Fortnite channel, creating the series Fortnite Adventures with Steve & Rachael5. Cory and Kaleb voiced almost all of the characters in improv recording sessions at the series start. The channel seemingly grew overnight, as Fortnite Adventures quickly became NewScape's largest series yet.

In 2018, Cory hired Ryan Stewart, a voice actor and machinima cinematographer who currently writes and directs for all current Fortnite content. After deleting older content on several of the channels to rebrand the pages for even more Fortnite content, NewScape Productions found success and a second chance at building the company.

During that time, while the Minecraft audience had shrunk significantly, there were still fans waiting for more content. Cory and NewScape Productions faced criticism for deleting older content that viewers still wished to enjoy. The shift also was an end to Cory's participation in the crew, though the fandom continued to live on.

NewScape Studios[]

In 2019, Cory and the NewScape Productions team moved from New Hampshire to Austin, Texas in hopes of finding a larger variety of employees interested in working on YouTube content. In Austin, NewScape Productions rebranded and reincorporated as NewScape Studios inc. NewScape hired many employees to create more Fortnite content, and also relaunched the original Minecraft channel.

Growing to over thirty employees, NewScape Studios creates content for eleven YouTube channels covering a variety of content in mediums such as animation, machinima and live action production. In 2020, Cory moved to Denver, Colorado to open another NewScape office, focusing on live action and animation. NewScape Studios then launched four animation projects: SCP Animated, GameToons, GameTunes, and GameToons Español--GameToons being their quickest growing channel to date.

GameToons[]

GameToons is a YouTube channel owned by NewScape Studios that makes animations based on games that are trending around the internet, such as Among Us and Friday Night Funkin'. The "Fall Guys Logic" Series was the one that began it all, but was sadly discontinued after 2 episodes, being replaced with Among Us Logic. Other animated series that GameToons produces include Friday Night Funkin' logic, Minecraft Logic, Squid Game Logic, and Poppy Playtime Logic. The GameToons channel was created on March 18, 2020, releasing its first video on August 29, 2020.
