Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink that is manufactured by PepsiCo. Originally created and developed in 1893 by Caleb Davis Bradham and introduced as Brad's Drink, it was renamed as Pepsi-Cola in 1898, and then shortened to Pepsi in 1961.[1]
History[]
Pepsi was first introduced as "Brad's Drink" in New Bern, North Carolina in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, who created it at his drugstore where the drink was originally sold.[1]
It was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898, "Pepsi" because it was claimed to relieve dyspepsia, and "Cola" referring to the cola flavoring.[2]
In 1903, five years after creating the brand, Bradham moved the bottling of Pepsi from his drugstore to a rented warehouse. That same year, Bradham sold 36223.25 liters, or 7,968 gallons of syrup. The following year, Pepsi started to be sold in bottles that could hold six-ounces, and sales increased to 19,848 gallons sold.
