Pharrell Lanscilo Williams[1] (born: April 5, 1973 (1973-04-05) [age 52]),[1] often known mononymously as Pharrell, is an American[1] musician, singer, and songwriter, who performs the genres of hip hop, R&B, funk, and pop, and has been active since 1992. Since starting his career, he has released two studio albums, In My Mind (2006) and Girl (2014), and one mixtape, In My Mind: The Prequel (2006). He has collaborated with artists like Daft Punk and Robin Thicke, with his most popular songs being Get Lucky and Blurred Lines.[citation needed]

Early life[]

Pharrell Lanscilo Williams[2] was born on April 5, 1973, in Virginia Beach, Virginia,[3][4] and was the eldest of three sons of teacher Carolyn and handyman Pharoah Williams.[5]

Career[]

In 2006, Williams released his debut solo album, In My Mind,[6] which debuted at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200.[7]

In March 2013, Robin Thicke's single "Blurred Lines," produced by Williams,[8] reached number one in the UK and the US.[9][10] Williams also contributed to two UK songs, "Get Lucky" and "Blurred Lines," which sold a million copies.[11]

In December 2013, Williams was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, including Producer of the Year.[12] He signed a contract with Columbia Records[13] and announced an album in 2014 featuring "Happy," which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.[14]

Despicable Me[]

In 2010, Williams collaborated with Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira on the music score for the animated film Despicable Me.[15]

Williams wrote three new original songs for Despicable Me 2 (2013),[16] including "Just a Cloud Away", "Happy", and "Scream" featuring CeeLo Green,[17] and reprised his two original songs from the first film, "Despicable Me" and "Fun, Fun, Fun".[18]
