Jordan Terrell Carter (born: September 13, 1995 (1995-09-13) [age 29]), known professionally by his stage name Playboi Carti, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his music.

Early life[]

Carter was born on September 13, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia, in the suburbs of Riverdale. Growing up, Carter stated in a Complex interview in 2016, "My ma couldn't tell me shit. Nobody could tell me shit.", which would lead Carter into trouble from his lavish lifestyle. He wanted to become an NBA star before rap.

Career[]

Carter began rapping under the name of $ir Cartier in 2011 and changed to his current name two years later. He uploaded his songs to SoundCloud in 2011. Carter joined Awful Records in 2014. He then moved to New York City where he met members of A$AP Mob and got to join in their group when moving to Texas. On October 20, 2015, the music video to "Broke Boi" was uploaded to YouTube, which then received 17.6 million views in the course of eight years.

In 2017, Carter released his eponymous debut mixtape, which gained attention from music magazines and publications. Carter then released his debut studio album Die Lit in 2018, which gained attention, getting onto number 3 on the US Billboard 200. He worked on his sophomore album Whole Lotta Red in 2018, which was then released two years after. Carter is currently working on his upcoming third studio album, which is scheduled to release in 2024.

Channel[]

Carter created his YouTube channel on May 1, 2018. He currently uploads videos and audios to his music. Carter's most viewed video is the music video for "Sky", from his sophomore album Whole Lotta Red, which sees Carter and his group members "raise hell at a grocery store", hailing at 74 million views as of November 2023.[1]

Controversy[]

Scamming Adin Ross on stream[]

On Twitter, Kick streamer Adin Ross claimed that he was paying Playboi Carti $2 million and a new Ferrari to appear on his stream.[2] Carti turned up two hours later, and the pair exchanged some awkward small talk before Adin handed Carti a huge duffel bag full of cash. Finally, within little more than 5 minutes, Carti said he was going to be leaving and headed off.[3] 21 Savage called Ross following the stream, he said he “didn’t pay that” when Savage questioned the amount.[4]
