Steven Serge (born: August 21, 1990YouTuber, Twitch streamer and former Overwatch esports commentator who resides in Austin, Texas. He was once one of the most prolific Team Fortress 2 YouTubers on the site, producing TF2 content from 2011 until around 2015.
), better known online as STAR_ (also known as Ster or Niichts), is an AmericanAround 2016, Ster migrated to Twitch and began streaming there much more frequently. He has since uploaded only occasional videos on his YouTube channel (about one video a year), but hasn't completely abandoned it.
Career[]
Ster created his Youtube channel STAR_ in 2007, but wouldn’t start posting videos until 2011. He would upload gameplay videos of Team Fortress 2 and Diablo II with a calm atmosphere while giving gaming tips. Over time he let more of his personality shine through, and his videos leaned more and more towards comedy. His TF2 videos were especially popular, and still have millions of views today. He was known for pushing the game to its absolute limits of comedy, his skill at rocket-jumping with the Soldier, and also playing competitively on several TF2 teams. During this time he collaborated on videos with many other players, such as Ma3la, b4nny, and most notably Jerma985.
However, eventually Ster began to burn out on TF2, his flagship game. When Overwatch was released, he began making videos about it instead, which was an unpopular decision with a large portion of his fanbase. In 2016, Ster began to focus more on streaming on Twitch instead of YouTube. He became well-known in the Overwatch community as well (though not nearly to the same extent as in TF2), playing on Team USA in the first Overwatch World Cup and casting for the 2016 ESL Atlantic Showdown.
In the beginning of 2021, Ster released What happened to the old STAR_? explaining his absence from YouTube, citing harassment from his fanbase and a constant nagging to return to TF2 as the biggest problems. He had been suffering depression, which wasn't helped by his viewers. In the video he also clarified that his preferred screen name was now Ster instead of STAR_.
As of 2023, Ster mainly focuses on The Myriad, a DND-like tabletop RPG system and world created by himself, which he streams often on Twitch (which can also be seen as VOD reuploads on his second channel). Ster returned to Team Fortress 2 by streaming the game on twitch (including one stream with Jerma) in the summer of 2023 and uploaded the video I Played TF2 after 9 Years on his main channel, the first video in over two and a half years.
ster 2[]
404STAR, later renamed to ster 2, is Ster's alternate YouTube account. There are many different games featured, which vary from a more unedited, raw, live commentary style to edited stream highlights.
His uploads on this channel had become less frequent after he started livestreaming on Twitch. It had been on a hiatus for some time starting 2019, but from early 2022 received new videos again every few weeks to months.
He has stated that most videos on this channel weren't as intricately edited as those on his main channel, and were "lazy" compared to his main channel.
Video Series[]
Ster has created a few minor video series.
Story Time[]
In Story Time Ster talks about his life, or serious topics that are not related to Team Fortress 2, while having something being drawn at the background. Currently, there are only 5 videos to his Story Time series.
In his just talking video, he tells his viewers that he doesn't draw as much as he once did, not because he got bored, but because he had transferred his passion for drawing to making and editing videos. He also reassured his viewers that Story Time is always in his mind, and maybe in the future he might be able to find the time to produce more. But at the moment, he has been becoming more uncomfortable with sharing personal stories in the internet, especially since his fan-base is ever growing.
Basically[]
Basically is a video series where he plays various other games beside TF2, fluctuating between actual reviews and complete randomness, such as GTA IV with mods and cheats. The series was originally posted on 404STAR, his alternate account, but was then continued on his main channel. STAR_ has said multiple times that videos in this series take by far the longest time to record and edit, with the average length of creation lasting from a few days to 2 or so weeks.
In the GTA IV videos of the series, STAR_ created a meme that had gained some notoriety at the time, the Truck Punchline. This was later recreated in a TF2 video with Jerma.[1][2]
Team Fortress 2[]
Ster did a mini series called Jerma is mad, where he and Jerma basically do a 1v1 while playing TF2 at the exact same time.
