―SUSHI RAMEN【Riku】's intro

Riku Horiuchi (Japanese: 堀内陸; born: May 30, 1999 (1999-05-30) [age 26][1]), better known online as SUSHI RAMEN【Riku】 (Japanese: すしらーめん《りく》), is a Japanese YouTuber, who is known for extreme experiments, strange inventions, and harmless pranks.

Personal life[]

He was born on May 30 1999, in Tokyo, Japan.
He studies in the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, in Keio University.[2]

History[]

In 2013, when he was playing with his friend, they made a watermelon explode using rubber bands, and it hit his friend's face. They found it entertaining, and thought it would be a good idea to take videos of them playing.
On October 23 2013, he created his YouTube channel, and on December 8 2013, he posted his first video, which he tries to catapult a can using a match. He's been uploading experiment videos since then.

He used to share his channel with his friend, but his friend quit YouTube.

On May 21 2015, he created his second channel, called すしらーめん《にく》 (English: Sushi RAMEN【Niku】). On this channel, he posts behind the scenes of videos on his main channel, vlogs focused on himself and his family, and miscellaneous laid-back videos. The channel name was temporarily changed to すしらーめん《2nd》(Japanese: SUSHI RAMEN【2nd】) because viewers said the original channel name was confusing, but it later got changed back.
He joined the YouTuber company UUUM on unknown date, but judging from topics page on UUUM website, it is assumed to be 2016 or earlier.

On February 17 2016, he posted a video which he tests if it hurts when he gets punched by a pro boxer even with the special protector. It got viral, and his subscribers started to grow significantly.

On June 24 2017, he announced a hiatus, due to the entrance exam for the university. In October 2017, he passed the exam, and he came back to YouTube.
In Spring 2018, he left UUUM. However, he never publicly announced so until April 2019.

On October 23 2020, he announced another hiatus, in order to concentrate on his life, and train himself to upgrade his upload frequency in the future. He temporarily came back on November 29 2020, but he went back to the hiatus on January 1 2021.

On June 11 2021, he announced that he is coming back, and he is going to post every week.

Membership[]

He announced the membership on April 20, 2020. There are some membership-exclusive content, including VR videos.

Family[]

He lives with his parents, little sister, little brother, and dog. They are all cooperative to him, and they sometimes help him with recording videos. He also has grandparents, who also often appear to his videos.

Father[]

He sometimes shows up and helps Riku with setting up for experiments, but he is a target for Riku's prank from time to time. He works for company management. He is often wearing a face mask. He has an instagram account.

Mother[]

Although she never reveals her face or voice, she sometimes helps Riku with recording.

Wave[]

Wave (Japanese: ウェーブ) is a miniature dachshund. He is sometimes a target of Riku's pranks. His first appearance was on September 12 2016, and he got a warm reception from viewers. He often shows up on Riku's vlog. Riku treats him like his little brother.

Little Sister[]

There are hardly any information about her because she never shows up on Riku's videos, but he sometimes mentions her on twitter.

Ray[]

Ray (Japanese: れい) is Riku's little brother, who is 18 years younger than Riku. He is sometimes the target for Riku's prank. His first appearance was on October 5 2018, and he quickly gained popularity for his cuteness. It was when he was 11 months old. Since then, on his every birthday, Riku has been doing the same "moving bear doll" prank on him. He often shows up on Riku's vlog., along with Wave.

Grandmother[]

She is Riku's good target for his pranks. She is famous for her pure reaction to Riku's pranks. Although she gets pranked by Riku a lot, she is on good terms with Riku.

Grandfather[]

He helps Riku with setting up for pranking his wife (Riku's grandmother). He used to work as a scientist.

Tank-Top Master[]

Shuhei Higashi (Japanese: 東修平), better known online as Tank-Top Master (Japanese: タンクトップマスター), is Riku's friend who sometimes shows up to help Riku with his experiments, using his muscle and power. Sometimes, Riku calls him Shu-chan (Japanese: 修ちゃん). He often shows his muscle to viewers, which caused him to get popular.
He is a professional Lethwei fighter. He created his own YouTube channel on September 14 2020, where he talks about martial arts.

  • His nickname derives from his favorite foods; Sushi and Ramen.
  • His channel name was originally in Japanese, but later he changed it to English so people all over the world can find him.
    • Also, he made a playlist for his videos with English subtitle, to make it more friendly to people who don't understand Japanese.
  • Avantis inspired him to become a YouTuber, and later they became friends with him.
  • He uses Canon iVIS HF G20 to record videos.
  • He never joined any club activities when he was in junior high school or high school.
  • His favorite animes are Bakemonogatari and Gintama.
    • His favorite character in Gintama is Katsura Kotaro.
  • In the 26th episode of Trash Taste, he got introduced.
