The San Diego Zoo is the official YouTube channel of the American zoo with the same name.
History[]
The zoo was growing out of exhibits for animals during the Panama–California Exposition, which took place 1915-1917. The exposition was meant for the opening of a new canal. The zoo grew quickly in the area due to the random species of animals they exhibited.
Channel[]
The channel was created on September 11, 2006, and the first video was uploaded on the same day. The channel uploads features of their zoo, the animals there, and interviews with zookeepers.
Trivia[]
- One of the founders proclaimed that they thought of the idea for the zoo when one said "Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a zoo in San Diego? I believe I'll build one."
- The zoo has a numerous amount of animal escapes.
- The first ever YouTube video, Me at the zoo, was filmed at the San Diego Zoo. Jawed stood behind their elephant exhibit and talked about the animals there.
- The channel also left a comment on the video which reads as: "We're so honored that the first ever YouTube video was filmed here!" The comment has amassed 3.3 million likes and is currently the most liked YouTube comment.
