―Schaffrillas's channel description |
James Phyrillas (born: January 9, 1998YouTube reviewer who was formerly a YouTube Pooper.
), better known online as Schaffrillas Productions, is an AmericanHis content is diverse on media he enjoys, though his most popular videos tend to be about mainstream animated movies, though by 2023 he has tried to balance his content out with live-action movie coverage, video games, and musical theater. In early 2024, after finishing his video Why Kung Fu Panda 2 is a Worthy Sequel, he admitted he’s getting tired of talking about mainstream animated movies, and only makes them because they get the most views. Later that year, in his video The Odd Implications of Moana 2’s Credits Scene, he mentioned he’s getting tired of talking about movies as a whole, and would much prefer talking about video games and musical theater. In the same video, he encouraged his audience to branch out their film tastes and not just stick to mainstream movies, using Memoir of a Snail as an example. His favorite fictional character is Tamatoa from Moana and loves "Shiny" with a passion. His favorite piece of media of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask. His second is the musical Hadestown, and his third is the film Whiplash.
Personal life[]
James Phyrillas was born on January 9, 1998, and is from Berks County, Pennsylvania. He is of Greek heritage and has described himself as a Christian. During high school, James was into theatre and took part in high school productions. It was also in high school where he created his YouTube account Schaffrillas Productions with his friend Chris Schaffer (His channel's YouTube name is a portmanteau of their last name's). He attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating in 2020. He is currently dating the YouTuber Lavender Whale, who also does some editing work for him.[1][2]
Car accident and hospitalisation[]
On January 29, 2023, at 4:02 PM EST, James, his brother Patrick, and Chris were all involved in a car crash in Lehigh County, resulting in Chris and Patrick's deaths and James' hospitalisation in critical condition due to fractured ribs and a punctured lung.[3][4] James was then sent home three days later where he set up a GoFundMe campaign for Chris's funeral. He states on Twitter that he'll be taking a hiatus from YouTube due to the tragic incident, but still appreciates all of the kind feedback from his audience.[5] The GoFundMe would immediately surpass the goal amount to $25,000 which was originally $10,000.
Content[]
His current content includes movie coverage (mostly animated but also live-action) some television content, and also plenty of video game-related videos. His older videos are mainly comprised of YouTube Poops or just random content.
Is it good or nah?[]
This series is a short review after James watches a movie for the first time. These videos are usually around 5 to 10 minutes.
Why [media title] is a...[]
These videos are in-depth analysis on movies, TV series, musicals, or video games. The description in the title can vary according to James' opinion of the reviewed media. Commonly, films he strongly dislikes are presented as "Cinematic Disaster[s]" as is the case with Shark Tale and Shrek the Third. Other examples include describing a media product as "an Underrated Gem" (Shrek Forever After, Meet the Robinsons, the first Pikmin game) or "an Underrated Masterpiece" (Kid Icarus: Uprising).
Every [x] Ranked[]
James ranks an entire collection of media, such as all the movies from a certain studio or all the levels from a certain video game. The spots in the ranking list are presented from worst to best, with the top spot being discussed at the very end of the video.
- Every [film studio] Movie Ranked: a ranking of the entire filmography by a certain studio, such as Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Sony, Dreamworks or Studio Ghibli.
- Prior to the video where he ranked all of Disney Animation Studios' movies, James also made rankings of Disney films released in individual eras (e.g. all the Disney Renaissance movies, or all Disney movies from the 2000's).
- Every [director] Movie Ranked: Similar to the studio rankings, but based on directors instead. The first video of this kind was uploaded in 2023, covering Wes Anderson's library. Since then numerous famous director filmographies have been ranked by him, such as James Cameron and Steven Spielberg.
- Every [video game] Level Ranked: following up on their video on Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, James and his brother Patrick ranked all 36 levels in the game. This is the only video game the channel has ranked outside of the Mario Kart series.
- Every [Mario Kart game] Course Ranked: between November 2022 and December 2023, James released a series of videos where he ranked every track in a given Mario Kart title. Aside from ordering each game's courses in order of preference, he also classifies them into tiers ranging from F to S. Upon reaching the middle point in each ranking, James makes a break from ranking the race tracks and gives his opinion on the respective's game Battle Mode, also ranking the Battle courses. This series concluded with the ranking of all 96 circuits in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
- Every [TV series] song ranked: two of these videos exist, covering all songs in Phineas and Ferb and Steven Universe respectively.
A common trope in these videos is the use of jingles before every spot in the list, usually teasing what movie, level, etc. took that place. The same two jingles are almost always used for the last and first places in the ranking, respectively, with the bottom spot being preceded by "Disappointment in the game of life!" and the first spot being introduced by the "Get Mask" jingle from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. There can be exceptions to this rule.
Top [x] Movies/Video Games of [year][]
Released around New Year, these videos consist of James listing his favourite movies or video games of the year that has been recently ended or is about to end. They used to be top-ten rankings until 2020, where his video game ranking only included six games. Since 2021, the top-of-the-year video game lists have returned to ten spots while the movie lists have increased from ten to fifteen places.
Mash-Ups[]
James previously made mash-ups of songs with clips from movies or TV-shows edited in. Most of the mash-ups include music from the Broadway musical, Hamilton.

The video featured cameos from other YouTubers like Illymation, ElectricDragon505 (AniMat) and Scott The Woz. The video also included a parody of “I Need a Hero” (Mostly the Shrek 2 version), called “I Need It Shiny!” Which was sung by Elsie Lovelock.
