When Derek originally created his channel, it was called Pencake and Wuffle and was shared with his girlfriend at the time. However, his goals and drives were stifled by creative differences between him and his girlfriend, and they eventually broke up. After the break up, he changed the channel password and identity, stating that "we only had 150 subscribers at the time, however I thought that was enormous and didn't want to abandon it". [1]
Boundary Break first began on April 27, 2016,[2] and was hugely successful, causing a rise in his subscribers. As of June 2, 2017, he is a co-host of Game Club Podcast.
Personal Life[]
In 2014, a good friend of Derek named Carl Evan Yancey, who he had previously featured on the channel, passed away after being involved in a collision with a vehicle.[3]
Derek has spoken about how he has been robbed before. When he was a teenager, he was trick-or-treating with a friend when a kid called out to him; when he went over to the kid, they pulled a gun out and demanded his candy. However, another kid would return his candy to him shortly afterwards. He was then robbed a second time, when working on the cash register at a Walgreens store; a man approached him and asked him to put all the money into the bag. Derek recalls how he was so distressed that the robber actually had to calm him down, before adding that he was disliked by his colleagues and mocked for being terrified when they reviewed security footage.
He was then involved in a third attempted robbery, when he was jogging and came across a kid on a bike who asked to "borrow" his phone. He refused, telling the kid where he could find a nearby phone, and was then asked if he had 2 bucks (which he didn't). At this point, the kid grabbed his chest and demanded his change; he fled to a nearby Toys-R-Us, where he had previously worked, and hid in an employee area. The kid was arrested for assault, and he describes how the kid was "manically laughing" and "screaming" in the police office; the kid was supposed to be on medication, so was let go subject to home visits from the court.
Other unusual life stories Derek describes includes dating a girl who had the personality of a cat (including purring when happy, hissing when angry and licking herself as a form of personal hygiene) and how he tried to defend his neighbourhood from a group of older children up to no good when he was 12.[4]
