Skallagrim, or simply Skall, is a Norwegian-born Canadian YouTuber who makes educational entertainment videos focused mainly on historical arms and armor as well as knives, tools, firearms, bows, crossbows, and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). He never claims to be an expert, only wanting to share his passion, debunk common misconceptions, give buyer's advice, and provide relaxing entertainment for people. He's part of the fairly small YouTube Medieval Community, and has talked with fellow Medieval YouTubers Metatron and Shadiversity. He has participated in multiple HEMA conventions with Lee Smith and Richard Marsden. He also participated in The VGH Longsword Open 2018.

He created his channel in December of 2006, but didn't start making videos until June of 2008, roughly a year and a half later. He also has a second channel, called Skallnanigans (previously called Skall Cave), where he posts vlogs and other miscellaneous videos.

He received notable attention for his reply to a video by the channel The Game Theorists where he reported MatPat's false information about the video game For Honor.

YouTube channel That Works made a custom falchion for him based on a historical original (the "Skalchion"). His favorite swords are the longsword and kriegsmesser.

Despite popular belief, he not does dislike katanas. In fact, he has more recently expressed positivity towards katanas, and in fact, he does like many kinds of curved swords.

Personal information[]

Previously living in various European countries, he settled in Victoria, British Columbia in the early 2010s. After his channel content being limited at this location due to lack of space, in 2019 he relocated to a small town north of Lower Sackville, NS, and after that in 2020, he again moved to an apartment in the Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia area, and he vlogged his cross-country journey. The reason why he moved was because of the fact that the house turned out to be a fixer upper in disguise which became too much of a financial burden.

Skallagrim is married; his spouse, named Cara frequently appears in his videos, assisting with weapon tests and demonstrations. In 2017 he was injured in a car-bicycle accident. He was injured again at some point in early 2019 and has since recuperated.
