Michael Shaevitch (born: August 15, 1995), better known online as Smike, is a Canadian gaming YouTuber who makes many How-To, Facts, Theories and Top 10-styled videos of Five Nights at Freddy's. His first video was posted in November 2011. He currently resides in Montreal, Canada.
Smike's channel started in 2011, mostly consisting of Skyrim how to's and quick play-throughs. Throughout the years he began doing top 10 videos, again, mostly about Skyrim. In August 2014, Five Night's at Freddy's came out on Steam. Due to the game's strange eerie and unsolved plot, many were left wondering about the game. That's when Smike began gathering information on the game and making top 10 videos. From that point on, his subscriber count sky-rocketed.
About[]
Smike currently lives in Montreal and is a PewDiePie and gaming fan, even entering PewDiePie's Game Jolt PewDiePie vs. Indie Games contest. He and his unnamed friend made the game "Miscarriage." The game scored an average vote of 4.79 with 701 votes. This however ranked the game in 665th place. He made several videos addressing the game saying it was a mistake in the system, and asking PewDiePie to play it. Sure enough PewDiePie commented on his video "Dear PewDiePie..." saying "JUST SAW THIS! I was contemplating making yet another part of jam games today. This convinced me to! Stay tuned :-)." His game had not yet been played by PewDiePie.
Smike, up until quite recently, was inactive, with his most recent video being uploaded on December 29, 2018. However, on September 21, 2020, he uploaded a comedic video titled "it's happening." relating to the Fallout series. In January of 2021, Smike briefly returned to make a live stream of him playing Five Night at Freddy's.
On November 28, 2021, Smike uploaded a Poppy Playtime gameplay video titled "i played scary game". His last public media activity recorded was in 24th of June 2024 on Twitter / X when he reposted a post made by a political meme account. Ever since, there's been no activity from any of his accounts. It is speculated that he abandoned his public socials and the internet as a whole after seeing a lack of interest from the remnants of his audience, likely due to his massive sole focus on FNAF content rather than anything else.
Controversy[]
Admiting to never played FNAF[]
On December 26th, 2014, Smike would post a video on his Let's Play on the first Five Nights at Freddy's, where at the beginning of the video, he admits that, although his entire channel revolved around FNAF, he never actually played one until doing a let's play on it, due to being not much of a horror fan.[1] This caused backlash from his fanbase and other users, who accused him of profiting off of people's work at the height of FNAF's popularity.
Stealing Fanart[]
Somewhere around September 27, 2015, almost all of his top 10 facts videos were deleted by YouTube, due to his use of Five Nights at Freddy's fanart in videos. As some artists didn't like him using their arts in his videos, several artists wrote a copyright material on his videos; their reports were successful. Smike made a public apology video about him placing all the names of the artists in the description. In 2016 all the top 10 facts videos were re-uploaded, with all the fanart replaced with different screens from the game franchise.
