Cory de la Minguez[1] (born September 7, 1990 ), known online as Cory Spazkid, Spazkid, Spazkidin3d, or Cory J. Beck, is an American animator, game developer, and artist. He is best known for drawing and animating adult cartoon material, and is often represented by Smash Girl, a heroine from his 2012 animation PowerTrip (18+). Background and History[]
Newgrounds and career[]
Growing up in Missouri, Cory is known for being a long-time member of Newgrounds, in which he would create incredibly satirical and nonsensical "troll" Adobe Flash cartoons, though he also experimented honing his skills as a professional NSFW artist. Going by several aliases in his early online career, Cory's animations were subject to takedowns and flags for their racy material. Eventually finding a stable platform to host his cartoons through his most popular channel, Spazkidin3d.
Some of Cory's well-known animations on YouTube include Pokemon Spread, intended for a cancelled Pokémon collab; Egorapture, a video in collaboration with Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson responding to people and fans who claimed other animator's exaggerated and fast-paced work was "a ripoff of Egoraptor"; and a fan-animated music video for the song I Know You Too Well To Like You Anymore by the ska band, Reel Big Fish.
Cory was at one point the sole animator for the Machinima series, Sanity Not Included, created by Dexter Manning and Lyle Rath for Machinima Happy Hour on YouTube. Work consisted of staying up for multiple days to meet deadlines and losing sleep, due to work not being planned months or weeks in advance. After the release of the season two finale on December 25, 2011, Cory resigned and handed reign of the animated portions of the series to fellow animators Nevarky and Zeurel.
His videos consist of nonsensical and vulgar parodies of TV shows, video games, and borderline smut material. Cory's works outside of YouTube, such as on his Twitter, being NSFW animations and loops. Alongside weird or bizarre web phenomena and niche online figures, Cory is a notorious fan of Chris Chan and the Sonichu comic, making reference on occasion, his earliest work being a parody series developed from 2007 to 2010 called Sonichu: The Animated Series, satirizing characters and bizarre moments from the comics.
SleepyCabin and SleepyCast[]
Cory moved to Philadelphia in his early-to-mid 20's to be closer to several associates he had met on Newgrounds, creating a collective named SleepyCabin. In collaboration with other popular internet animators such as OneyNG and PsychicPebbles, Cory was one of the main hosts of the podcast known as "SleepyCast". Here he shared various humorous stories that were either recent or from his childhood, sharing his many opinions on internet culture and daily inconveniences.
SleepyCast gave birth to the term "Coryisms", in reference to the way he would confuse subject matter, make ridiculous claims, or add the letter "S" to words.
OneyPlays[]
Cory is a recurring guest on the gaming YouTube channel, OneyPlays, alongside longtime associates. While not a main cast member, his friendship with Chris O'Neill has landed him a spot in various episodes. Cory's role has become more prominent since the departure of co-hosts DingDongVG and Julian Marcel.
The Third-Rates[]
The Third-Rates is a ska band formed in March of 2020, which Cory joined alongside his childhood friend, Dillan Simpson, whom he hadn't seen in over a decade. Cory provides trombone and vocals for the band's songs, and the group debuted with their first Album, See What Sticks, in February of 2021. The band performs live and tours in the United States.
Present[]
In recent years, and the 2020s, Cory has resumed online animation to partake in several Newgrounds collabs, focusing on Final Fantasy VII, Super Smash Bros, and Dragonball Z. Cory's Final Fantasy VII parody short, focused on the Wall Market sequence in Sector 6 with Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough, is exclusive on Newgrounds due to nudity. He has also hosted several livestreams on Twitch to an audience, such as ranking every Sonic and Mario game in a tier list.[2]
