Spotify is a Swedish music app which allows users to stream every type of music, from popular kinds, to underground bands and artists, to anyone in between, from any genre. The app was first launched on January 15, 2008, and since then has become one of the most popular ways for people to listen to their favorite music. Spotify, along with services like Amazon Music, are often credited with helping to eliminate CD collecting from popular conscious. According to the comapny's Q1 2020 report, there were 286 million monthly active users. Of these, 130 million were Spotify Premium subscribers. This is up from 271 million monthly active Spotify users and 124 million Spotify Premium subscribers in Q4 2019.
