It's your shooting star, your diamond in the rough, idol VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei!

―Hoshimachi Suisei

Suisei Hoshimachi (星街すいせい) (born: March 22 [age permanently 18]) is a Japanese VTuber associated with Hololive. While originally an independent VTuber who eventually was recruited into hololive, she is currently part of "hololive 0th gen" alongside fellow solo debutants Sora Tokino, Roboco, Sakura Miko and AZKi.

Content[]

She debuted on March 22, 2018, making several song covers, standing out with her modest voice. The first game she ever played was Project Winter,[1] where she won while being an imposter, which earned her the nickname "Suicopath". She has also played Cooking Fever and Animal Crossing,[2][3] before dedicating multiple streams to UnderTale.[4] She also played Minecraft and Tetris.[5][6]

She produced her first original song, comet, on November 22, 2018.[7] She released her third original sing on her birthday and her fourth on April 13, 2021.[8][9]

Collaborations[]

During AZKi's first live, she appeared as a surprise guest performer where she performed her second original song "天球、彗星は夜を跨いで" (Tenkyuu, Suisei wa Yoru wo Mataide). It was afterwards announced that AZKi and Suisei would be affiliated with INoNaKa Music (INNK MUSIC), a music label under hololive, and she even made an appearance at the INNK EXHiBiTiON in Akihibara.

Her most viewed video is of her singing "[Zombie Land Saga] Franchouchou "Saga Jihen" / Hoshimachi Suisei" with all five members of Hololive Fantasy.[10]

On 29 November 2021, it was announced that Suisei was one of the many VTubers featured at the VILLS concert.[16]

Fandom[]

Her fanbase is officially called "Stargazers", while in Japanese they are called "Hoshiyomi" 「星詠み」. Prominent Hoshiyumi include Tokyo Ghoul mangaka Sui Ishida[13].

In-jokes/memes[]

  • Calling Suisei a "Suicopath" because of the Project Winter incident, as well as the fact that once she expressed a desire to kill a million people in Grand Theft Auto V. Despite this, Suisei has tried to get rid of the nickname.
  • In another stream, Towa called her "SMS" (Suisei Maji pSychopath), as it was similar to her own nicknames.
  • Ever since the aforementioned "Suicopath" incident, Suisei has been dubbed "always sus" in any game where an imposter is involved.
  • In the Japanese language, volume is described as "big" if it's loud, or "small" if it's quiet. Regardless of Suisei's audio quality, due to her lack of breasts, many idols she collaborates with like to say "すいちゃんは今日も小さい!" ("Sui-chan is small today too!") to poke fun of her over this.
  • During a stream of her using Duolingo to learn English, Suisei was tasked to say the phrase "Hi, honey". Due to Suisei's execution, the phrase became so memetic, that not only was it featured on AsaCoco, but it spread to many Western VTubers as well, such as Veibae of VShojo. Many fans began trying to get other hololive members (particularly Moona, Kronii, Watame, Kanata, Calliope, Subaru, Matsuri and Luna) to say it as well.
  • Sui's sister, Anemachi, being Calliope.
  • One time she was asked to cover Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul, but due to not knowing the lyrics she ad-libbed/mumbled her way through. This cover is often played whenever any talent of Hololive faces a minor problem.

Personal Life[]

She has an older sister, who she lives with (dubbed "Anemachi" by fans). She auditioned for multiple real-life idol agencies, but was rejected due to her being a "Jack of all trades, Master of none". She used to work at a Japanese pub, and was initially rejected by hololive, but they allowed her to work under their music label, before she was transferred to the main branch around the end of 2020.

Trivia[]

  • She is her own illustrator, however currently it is Nari and her modelers are rariemonn and Yatsurugi.[14][15][16]
  • She is 43kg.
  • She is 160cm.
  • She used to work for S:gnal but left a month after.[17]
  • On 11 January 2021, Suisei won the 2nd hololive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tournament, with 43 points.
  • Suisei's surname, while officially written in English as "Hoshimachi", is often alternatively romanized as "Hoshimati" or "Hosimati" in her videos and account names.
  • She is a huge Love Live fan.
