Supertramp Official is the official YouTube channel for the British rock band Supertramp.
History[]
Supertramp was founded in 1969[1] in London by Roger Hodgson on keyboards, guitar and vocals and Rick Davies on keyboards and vocals.[2] They released their self-titled debut album in 1970. The album was released only in Britian and was a flop.[3] Other members of the band originally were Richard Palmer on guitar and Robert Millar on drums.
In 1971, Supertramp released their next album, the band would gain a few new members including Dave Winthrop on Saxaphone, Kevin Currie on the drums and Frank Farrell as their bassist, this album was also a flop.
In 1974, after two unsuccessful albums Supertramp released their album Crime of the Century.[4] This album had a lineup change added members John Helliwell on Saxaphone and Claranet, Dougie Thompson on Bass and Bob Siebenberg on drums. The album was a huge hit,[5] the album has hits such as ''School'', ''Bloody Well Right'', ''Dreamer'', ''Rudy'' and ''Hide in your shell''.
In 1975, the band released their next album, Crisis? What Crisis?.[6]
In 1977, Supertramp released their album Even in the Quietest Moments.[7] The album had the huge hit Give a Little Bit on it, which Hodgson wrote. Hodgson was inspired by the Beatles song ''All You Need is Love''.[8] The song would go on to appear in a Amazon commercial
Breakfast in America[]
In 1979, Supertramp released their bestselling album Breakfast in America.[9] The album was originally titled ''Hello Stranger''.
The album included songs such as ''Gone Hollywood''[10] which was about someone going to Hollywood to become a Movie star. The song was written by Rick Davies. The second song of the album is ''The Logical Song'' The song was written by Hodgson which was about his experience at boarding school and all of the questions he had about life.[11] The third song of the album is ''Goodbye Stranger'' it was written by Rick Davies. [12] The fourth song of the album is ''Breakfast in America''. The fifth song of the album is ''Oh Darling'' it was written by Davies. The sixth song of the album is ''Take the Long way Home'' the song was written by Hodgson, the song is about finding home. The seventh song in the album is ''Lord is it Mine''. Hodgson said it is one of his favorite songs he has ever written.[13] The eighth song on the album is ''Just a Nervous Wreck'' the song was written by Davies''. The ninth song on the album is ''Casual Conversations'' the song was also written by Davies. The tenth and final song on the album is ''Child of Vision'' which was written by Hodgson.
The band would tour under the Breakfast in America world tour for the album, the tour was a success.
Famous Last Words[]
In 1982, Supertramp released their album Famous Last Words[14], this would be the last album Hodgson would sing on because he would leave the band to spend more time with his family.
1983-Present[]
After Hodgson left Davies became the bands lead singer, Supertramp would release several more albums such as Brother Where You Bound[15], Free as A Bird[16], Some Things Never Change[17], and Slow Motion.[18] The band would break up in 2002.
Hodgson would later go on to become a solo artist and since the 1990s he has been touring, preforming Supertramp songs.
In 1997 former member briefly during the early 70s Frank Farrell died at the age of 50, he had struggled with alcoholism.
In 2010 Supertramp would reform with Rick Davies, John Helliwell and Bob Siebenberg. On November 16, 2012, Supertramp played their last concert. In 2015, Supertramp announced their concert ''Supertramp Forever'', but the concert was cancelled due to Davies experiencing health issues.[19]
Currently Roger Hodgson tours solo, John Helliwell tours with ''John Helliwell's Super Big Tramp Band''[20], Rick Davies would perform some of his Supertramp songs in 2022[21], and Bob Siebenberg writes a blog on his website, and Dougie Thompson would write about music.
Channel[]
Supertramp created their YouTube channel on February 26, 2022.[2] The channel has 116 videos and over 22,000 subscribers.
Supertramp also has a Vevo channel, the channel joined on April 9, 2010[22][23]which uploaded music videos from Supertramp, with their first video being uploaded on June 10, 2010 of the music video for their 1982 song My Kind of Lady from their album Famous Last Words.[24] The band would upload their most popular video on March 22, 2012, of the music video Its Raining Again from the same album, the video would get over 64 million views.[25]
