Bias in Controversies > Jordan Peterson[]
It seems this part was written to weave in a narrative that's Anti-Ethan and Pro-Peterson.
Full disclosure: I have my own biases. I don't want the wiki to be biased, though. IMO: This section, in its current state, is too biased, and less useful for it.
For example, the passage:
"Dr. Peterson later warned Ethan about cancel culture, and that Ethan would be held to impossible standards to maintain, which Ethan ridiculed. Dr. Peterson would then be proven right after Ethan's fans cancelled him for alleged homophobia a few months later."
paints a tale where Ethan is an arrogant fool for underestimating the great power of PC cancel culture; that he wrongly attacked the blameless Peterson, and his divine retribution. was when Peterson was "proven right". It is implied by this "proving-right" that Ethan had made some claim, like, "I will never be cancelled!" when Ethan's ridicule may also have centered around whether cancel culture is a ridiculous concept, and even if he were to be cancelled, it would be fine if he deserved it.
I say "ridicule may also have..." because I still need to look at the primary sources. I would prefer to trust this page as a decent secondary source, but I don't based on what I've read in it.
I'm not sure Peterson's "warnings" are even relevant to the controversy between these two. It sounds like his typical pseudo-intellectual epithet, rather than a wise caution, as I'm sure the writer would like it to seem. Ethan was simply bound to get into another controversy sooner or later.
Another example: Peterson is introduced as "clinical psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson". This is a far cry from what he is primarily known for, and what may technically be his main profession: his controversial rhetoric.
Wikipedia's page for Peterson introduces him like so: "Jordan Bernt Peterson (born 12 June 1962) is a Canadian media personality, clinical psychologist, ... [2 more titles]" Notice the primary title is "media personality". "Dr." is not appended either, as this somewhat-redundant title is meant to add prestige when we are discussing a psychologist.
I can practically see the writer's worldview seeping from the text! I concede there is a mention of what Ethan criticized Peterson for, but it's extremely scarce considering the scale of Peterson's personal controversy (i.e. accusations of being hateful / harmful / alt-right gateway - the first step in converting "edgy humor" teens to white supremacists). I see the issues with Ethan's behavior here, but I don't trust that all the facts are straight and this is a fair telling of events.
This is a complex issue. Peterson is not just a psychologist who gets bullied. The way I see it, he tends to degrade certain groups of people for his grift. I am one of many with a big problem with that. I partly think he deserves some mistreatment for all he's done to others. I feel moral urgency with this wiki page. Like I said, I don't want the wiki to be biased, but I want people to take it seriously. I consider the stakes higher than online bullying or youtuber drama.
I am asking for editors to take into account the bias in the text and try to make it more neutral. Thank you. I will try to contribute some edits myself, of course, trying my best to be neutral.
