Talking Tom is a Slovenian YouTube channel, evidently created by Samo Login (the co-founder of Outfit7). The channel mostly uploads gameplays and various animated series' about Tom, Talking Angela, Hank, Ginger, Becca and Ben doing all sorts of funny shenanigans and adventures of their everyday lives.
History[]
In 2009, a group of eight entrepreneurs decided that they wanted to create unique entertainment apps that were fun, engaging and interactive. They formed Outfit7 and with their extensive online and digital media experience they combined creativity and quality with Talking Tom in 2010, the first of the apps in the Talking Tom and Friends series.
The architect behind Talking Tom, Outfit7's CEO and co-founder Samo Login, previously worked for the Slovenian search engine portal Najdi.si.
Outfit7 was founded in 2009 by Samo and Iza Login. They earlier tried to develop a football app and a travel guide, but decided on a children's app called Talking Tom Cat. The app was an instant hit, and they made countless spin-offs, including Talking Ben the Dog and a sequel called Talking Tom 2. The apps spawned seven animated series and a feature film in production with Mythology Entertainment which will be released in 2022.
Acquisition by Chinese investors[]
The Logins were hoping for a lucrative deal to sell their company. In January 2017 there were press releases that said that Outfit7 had been sold to the United Luck Consortium for $1 billion. However, four days later, another press release stated that United Luck had sold Outfit7 to Zhejiang Jinke Peroxide Company.
Controversy[]
Age inappropriate advertising[]
The My Talking Tom app was reported for having advertised age-inappropriate advertisements for adult services. In 2015, the UK Advertising Standards Authority Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that advertising for an adult website was delivered to underage children via the app.[1][2] The ASA noted that Outfit7 "had a strict advertising policy" but that the company "had not been able to identify which ad network had served an age-inappropriate ad on a children's app" and how the advertisements were shown in the app.[3]
Content[]
They mostly upload videos that are less than 12 minutes long, and there are regular shorts that are often uploaded monthly in a series. All the channel's famous animated series includes: Talking Tom Shorts, Talking Angela Shorts, Talking Hank Shorts, My Tom 2 shorts, Talking Tom Brainfarts, Talking Tom Hero Dash Runners and Talking Tom and Hand, all of this series' episodes are no more than 10 minutes long that mainly focuses on Tom and his friends' adventures and daily lives.
