আমি দেখলাম বাইরে কারোর হাতে দিলে সেটা আর আমার কাজ থাকছে না। ইউটিউব এমন এক মাধ্যম যাতে কোনও বিধিনিষেধ নেই।
If I hand it over to someone, it's not my work anymore. So better choose something with no restrictions.[1]

―Kiran, to NDTV

Kiran Dutta (born: Ishan[2]; July 15, 1995 (1995-07-15) [age 28]), better known online as The Bong Guy, is an Indian YouTube comedian who posts reaction videos on YouTube. Kiran is the first YouTuber from West Bengal.

Personal Life

Kiran Dutta was born in Dhubulia, a town in West Bengal, India. He grew up there along with his brother Debo Jyoti Nandi and sister Kaushik Dutta,[3] and later shifted to Kolkata for better job opportunities. He used to be an equally good student during his schooldays. He came first in the secondary exams and second in Higher-Secondary. Everyone expected him to be either a doctor, engineer, or a researcher. But, when Kiran found out the craze of having YouTube Channels back in 2015, leaving all choices and his surprised relatives behind, he opened his channel "The Bong Guy" even though being studied Engineering.

He himself started his Engineering Course at the Netaji Subhash Engineering College[4], but later realized it was not meant for him. So for earning purposes, he opened the channel. He got to create something new that time because he was the first Bengali YouTube Channel from India.

YouTube Career

Surpassing many Hindi channels, he showed them the strength of the population of Bengalis in India. At first, he wanted to publish is written story-works. But he knew that if he handed over to someone else, he would not be given credits.

He found YouTube as a platform to show out his talents and personality. He said, "The mother-tongue of most Hindi YouTubers is Hindi itself... So why hide your own mother-tongue?" Keeping this thought in mind, he started his channel as a Bengali channel. He also thought that by making videos in Bengali, reaching out to Bengali citizens would be a whole lot easier. The most popular of his YouTube Series is the "E Kemon Cinema" [What Kind Of Cinema Is This]. In this series, Kiran points out mistakes on Bengali cinemas in a rather joking and funny way. According to him, whenever he watches a movie, he has a pen and paper with him where he notes down the mistakes. He even made a "E Kemon Cinema" video on a cinema of his favourite actor Dev.

Surprisingly, Dev himself watched the video, and commented on the way Kiran tells the mistakes. Dev never takes the jokes seriously and knows what Kiran is doing is only for entertainment.

Your Bong Guy

Your Bong Guy is Kiran's gaming channel. Even though it was the second Bengali gaming channel after "BYOM KRIRA" a second channel by ODVUT 10, it is the most subscribed. He initially started it by live-streaming PUBG. However, it slowly turned into a variety gaming channel and he started uploading videos of games like Minecraft and Human: Fall Flat. It is also a partial vlog and skit-comedy channel.

Controversy

On June 25, 2020, Kiran uploaded a video titled "Everything About P**n | Bong Guy er Jhuli Ep05 | The Bong Guy" for the fifth episode of "Bong Guy-er Jhuli" (a parody of the Bengali classics "Thakurmar Jhuli").[Note 1] It sparked a shock among his fans as it turned the channel which previously used mild and indirect vulgarity, into a vulgar-based channel. Kiran did not want that to happen, so the thumbnail and the title were changed, in which the word was changed to "Prawn". The controversy gradually cooled down as he did so.[Note 2]

Notes

  1. The word was not originally censored in the video title.
  2. The previous thumbnail can be found in an image post on Facebook by The Bong Guy
